Hi All.
Ok I'm going to try flushing. A friend said he gets a weed hangover from my shit. A headache the next morning. Fuck thats not good! No one else has that problem, but the rest of my patients are daily smokers. This guy only on the weekends. My ash is black on the outside and white in the center.

In the past I've only done a 3 day flush with 72 hr dark cycle.

I grow DTW in rockwool. started week 7 yesterday cut my res by 25% this morning with PH H2O. Just to keep from running dry. I see some of you are in soil for a 14 day flush. I know my wool hold some nuts. But not like soil. I'm just a little afraid of starving my plants for 2-3 weeks. My mentor does not flush and advises against it.

Your ppm meter is your best friend for DWC.....if you can't get your ppm down use distilled water and closer to cut down ph is un necessary especially once ph stops rising on its own

well you could just try doing a 7 day flush instead of 14 days because your right, the rockwool wont hold onto nutes like soil will.i would say if you wanna try it,start ramping down nutes now by just using bloom foods only like pk with no N and then just 100ppm or water only for the last 5 to 7 days.your plants will still pack on weight while they fade and i think you will like your smoke even better.

actually, look up heavy metal content of some of the amendments used, including azomite. Trace amounts of lead, mercury, gold, all kinds of stuff in there. Still considered "organic" as it's a product of the earth. "Organic" does not necessarily mean uncontaminated.

If a product is called organic and it contains heavy metals of any sort it is NOT truly organic Period!!!

Organic compounds and inorganic compounds form the basis for chemistry. Here is a look at the difference between organic and inorganic compounds, plus examples of each type.
The primary difference between organic compounds and inorganic compounds is that organic compounds always contain carbon while most inorganic compounds do not contain carbon. Also, almost all organic compounds contain carbon-hydrogen or C-H bonds.

Examples of Organic Compounds or Molecules
Molecules associated with living organisms are organic. These include nucleic acids, fats, sugars, proteins, enzymes and many fuels.

    • DNA
    • table sugar or sucrose, C12H22O11
    • benzene, C6H6
    • methane, CH4

Examples of Inorganic Compounds
Inorganics include salts, metals, substances made from single elements and any other compounds that don't contain carbon bonded to hydrogen.

    • table salt or sodium chloride, NaCl
    • carbon dioxide, CO2
    • diamond (pure carbon)
There are few organic compounds that don't contain carbon-hydrogen bonds. Examples of these exceptions include:

    • carbon tetrachloride (CCl4)
    • urea [CO(NH2)2]
I know this was a little off topic but it kills me when vendors claim to be selling an organic nutrient. Most of what is sold off the shelves to cannabis farmers is not really 100% organic. Again, if it has any metals in it is is comprised of some inorganic materials. And to clarify I am not insinuating anyone here is making these claims. I just wanted to throw that out to define organic as opposed to inorganic.

Organic in cultivation is a legal definition,. And that definition comes with approved and unapproved 'substances.' That definition, because it's defined legally by at least two groups of people (the NOSB, who advises the USDA and NOP) is malleable. EG, plastic mulches, which perform very well, but don't technically qualify *as* organic, I believe can now be used *in* organic production (gotta go back and reread that, a lot of stuff is changing on the rules and such due to the changes on the NOSB).

To git back to flushin n stuff. Earlier i told ofa Poison Nanner that was in my compost pile. Well someone (neighbor kids i'll bet) got to it b'fer me. Must b karma. Anyway they took all but one lil nuglet. So thats all I got fer the testin. And i don't know about if she's gonna re-veg. But i'll giver a shot. So I let'er b until we had a hard freeze then plucked it. Let her dry on the shelf fer a few couple days then threw it in a blue medicine bottle. Now its been lil over a week. And all I got was this:View attachment 456102
Same bowl, same bud, just with the flash on:View attachment 456100 View attachment 456108
Oh but the weed gods have smiled once again on me! Cuz in the little tiny not even a third of a gram was:
Smells like pepper and licorice-ish with this sweet like somethin mixed in. Very pungent. Almost takes yer breath abit. View attachment 456111
That's hit one. Flavor is quite tasty (mildy peppery, that sweetness and sumptin I can't place dambit) , heavy on the expansion not harsh or hot though. Lungs don't burn et'all.
Second hit has my ears tinglin already. View attachment 456112 That's third hit. Very mild not harsh at all. Has started to deprecate on its heavy flavor. The thing I can't place is the almost menthol or fuel like flavor. Damn hellova head change (airy feelin). Daydreamin....
View attachment 456118
This is like number five I think. Not sure it could be four. There's like a hit left. I should have stopped at 3. Heavy head change, feel creative not couch bound. My bone spurs dont hurt at all. I can still feel'em but no discomfort. Floatin bout two inches above myself. Now that's some clean ashes!
Well one things fer certain. If God's involved with the grow, it turns out great. This wasn't flushed or watered except by rain. The nutes were residual of all the compost that's in the pile decomposing. So its very random.
I guess I should've never snuck un dem ol'timers gardens when I was young or I'd have more to experience and document. Paybacks are hell. Oh Well! Life goes on. Sorry to disappoint y'all. But on a good note in that lil itty bitty nugglet them "minions of us old" were so kind to leave me was this:

There are blessings in everything! This lil beauty is soakin as of now.

Kinda my view on flushing. "What would god do? Lol

And all I know, is when I look out my window right now, I see dying lawns, dying flowers, dying trees, orange red brown leaves everywhere.

Death is a natural part of life. All things must die. All the food Perviously in ground soil from decomposed leaves from the previous season has been eaten and the last rain fall has helped suck the last bit out. Flushing and fall rains are natural. Feeding up until harvest is exactly the opposite.

I walk outside in fall and see beautiful colors. If I walk into a grow room the day before chop and see nothing but lush green, how's that what nature would do with the plant if we all went extinct tomorrow .

If people prefer to smoke and grow unflushed weed, please, more power to you. Some people enjoy the taste of cold pizza over warm pizza. To each their own, theres no right or wrong , but just know any real grower will think your meds taste like shit and we all feel very sorry for the poor saps that have to medicate with your product. Just like anyone eating a fresh warm pizza out the oven is just cringing at the sight of a fool loving and savoring every single bite of his 24 hour cold pizza that was ordered the day before.

My two cents - back off at the end bigtime on chem, use carbs, flush near the end - yes lol. Organic or super soil wears out by the end on its own once dialed in for your strain, but again no additives near the end and plain water is best. Pretty much if your ashes aren't pure white somethings being left behind. And I am also glad I only smoke what I grow myself.

The conclusion?

I have found that my hydro/NFT plants burn better and taste better when they are flushed. Here is a picture of day 13 of flushing in my NFT system that shows how green the leaves are. The Aspen OG requires more flush than usual apparently. I usually run the system with just water and a little Clearex for 10 days and can see the leaves turn yellow before harvest. The Aspen is on day 75 and has been living off a diet of water and Clearex for a couple weeks, so there is certainly something left somewhere in the plant. The neighboring plant is finally starting to yellow so will be cut in the next day or 2. This thread was a great idea.

chances are the black ash or harsh burn people experience is due mostly to the stuff sprayed on it? even compost teas with leave residues we probably shouldn't smoke.

And like @SunGrown has mentioned with the white ash/black as being indicative of not flushing or flushing, I have tried same pheno and strain, one being kept in mason jar at 62% Rh for the long cure will always not burn completely and stay black as to where the same strain and exact pheno if I leave it on counter for a few days and it gets a lot dryer than the 62% bud always has a more complete burn, with no black and always leaves a white ash.

So are we dealing with lack of flush when we see these supposed tell tale traits of flush or not?, or are we just seeing bud that has a higher Rh in the bud structure causing a incomplete burn.?? I vote for snakeoilism and all this crap hydro stores are pushing for the flush is just marketing hype. That's my take on it. My name is Jumpincactus and I endorse this post.
