Their 3 ton units are typically 33,000 btus per hour not 36 as the name 3 ton would suggest. There is no inrush if you are using inverter type units which all Mitsubishis are as far as I know. Running current is around 18 amps at full load. All this depends on model number
well that was my next question.what is the best model in the 3 ton dual or triple zone? i ran into a guy on one of my jobs that talked about a commercial grade unit but could not give me any specifics.he just said they were better than what he was installing which was a 2.5 ton single zone heat pump/ac .i checked it out and was floored by how quiet they run(the outside unit). i have helped install a few daikin minisplits but they seem cheap to me and are def louder than the mitsu unit.
i just want the best unit i can get,or the caddy of mini splits

Try to avoid multi zones if possible. But if you have to stay with Mitsubushi and if you can afford it get their P series. It's server room grade.

is there a reason you dont like the dual zones as much cj? im wanting to do 2 x 36k systems, dual zone and use one of the zones/heads in veg right next door to the flower room.

Multizones just seem to have more issues. But I've only worked on a couple cause they're not as common.

Wow, created an account just to ask you a question CJ!
First off, thanks for all the helpful info, ive been read a lot of the 80 something pages in this thread. Youre Awesome.
ok my question:
Is it okay to run a split type ac 24 hours a day/7 days a week?
i live in the tropics and outside temps are usually over 100, humidity in the 80-90 range constant. (think Philippine Islands)
my a/c is a 1 year old Carrier Xpower Gold Inverter type 1.5 Ton split. i am currently in flowering week 1 and if the a/c is off even for an hour the humidity jumps up and so do the temps.. Only running 2 400 watt HPS with magnetic ballasts (all i could get were outdoor security lights in my secluded area). I can send youo a picture of my set up if you would like.

Never ok for that to happen. Your unit should come cycle some when the lights are off at least. Sounds like your room is not sealed and/or insulated very well

Do you got a dehumidifier? Would help out on your humidity load, would probably help the A/C from working so hard.
Humidity is a load just as heat on a unit!
Hope that helps good luck.

no no, it cycles off (the compressor outside) but the air handler is always running. as in i never press the power button to off. i have the temperature set to around 24-27 C . even when my lights are on the unit cycles off outside. i just mean can i keep my unit running for the next 2 months straight without pressing the off button on the remote..

i do it.my inside air handler has been running 24/7 for about 5 years now.only time i turn it off is to change the filter.it keeps air/heat moving at night as well as during lights on.

and "do i have a dehumidifier", the answer is no.. i am only running 6 plants at the moment in a small-ish area. ill just put in a couple of pics. the area is around 5ftx4ft. i have a fan underneath blowing upwards. my ac does a really good job removing moisture when the lights are on and i can check the RH levels.. thats why i feel like if i can keep it on all the time it will maintain proper RH?

My point was the Dehumidifier should help on load so your unit can possibly cycle especially at lite's out, giving your A/C some longevity
Just read just your air handler fan running constant (which is perfectly fine)the Dehuey should help with those humidity and temp spikes

i am currently looking to have a dehuey shipped to me, because the only ones for sale here are made in china for around 1000 US dollars and just look like junk.. so having one for my current run would be out of the question.

SixString, thanks for the reply! what kind of unit do you run? is it a split type also?

Not much can do when you got high ambient humidity
With out a Dehuey
I live in a desert and I got to use a Dehuey roughly same size grow as you also

i know that it cannot replace a dehuey, but i have several (around 20) of these moisture absorber things. its basically plastic containers that have white balls on top and a place to catch the water underneath. enough to cover about half the square footage of my grow area. not much but best i can do.. i have had a couple other grows but with only 3 plants the other times, no scrog just kinda free growing.. it was with a window shaker though and i would turn it off for 3 hours every day and just rely on fans and those moisture absorbers. it worked pretty well but i did have 1 big top cola get some bud mold. only my biggest one.. the set up was different though, (heres a couple pics of my old setup)

no its not a new mini split style.its a conventional a/c with a 4 ton compressor outside with a lineset coming in to a air handler i have hung on the ceiling of my grow so its out of the way.but like i said i run the inside unit(fan) 24/7 to keep good air circulation thoughout my room 12 x 20 x 9.5h

ahh i see. so to keep the fan running im guessing you just set the temperature up on the thermostat?

CJ - so is it okay to never power off my split type a/c for atleast the next 2-3 months? as long as i keep my temps set to a temperature that allows my compressor to cycle on and off..?

If the outside is cycling on and off then the indoor unit 24/7 should be no problem for years.

thanks a lot CJ, really gives me some piece of mind.
another question: on another mini split of mine (i have 3 in my house, here in the PH we don't have central cooling) both the thicker copper line and the thinner copper line "sweat" like condensate around the exposed parts. on my others, the smaller line is usually warm, but on this unit it is cool to the touch (both lines are, the thin and thick one). is this a concern? i was told by my ac tech that this is normal, but it seems un natural because my other 2 ac's, both of the same make and model, do not do this.

Should not need to ever power down your unit, just set the temperature
To keep fan running constant just switch the fan mode on thermostat to "Fan on" from "auto" this will turn your fan on the air handler to run constant
The "Auto" allows the fan to cycle off and on with compressor
Air movement will be your friend
Just set you temp where you want it and the outside unit will cycle as needed
