I hear people often say that trichomes are to protect the plant from UV but I question this theory.

That isn't a theory whatsoever. Cannabis trichome-production is a natural line of defense against predatorial-attack and UV-induced degradation. It's also a means of communication with other plants.

cannabis pollen is wind propelled and requires some stickyfingers to catch it.

It just requires a pistol to catch it.

Would the plant be any better off statistically speaking of pollinating itself by having pollen on leaves surrounding pistils or three miles away on the surface of some pond?

The pollen from 3-miles away can drift.

Pollen adhered to a trichome can't.

With LEDs indoors you can have no UV light emitted and see the same results on a strain without any UV in terms of trichcomes.
Tricome production drops once a plant is seeded.
Why would the plant care about predatorial attack if it isn't seeded and is going to die in a few weeks? What is the plants basis for survival? It only want a pollen tube.
Why do you say that pollen attached to a trich cannot? I reread what you wrote and misunderstood initially. My point was statistically speaking, that pollen two inches away from a pistil is going to be better off in my mind.

Venus fly traps capture bugs because Nitrogen is not easily accessible. The same COULD be true for cannabis, in that it is trying to capture as much N for its offspring by using Tricomes to capture bugs near the seed sites. I don't know the answer, but I don't believe that UV does as much as people/experts say for tricome production, and don't think just listening without reasoning gets you very far considering the added cost in electricity that UV requires.

Pollen tubes in various species can grow at extremely fast rates and very far(corn pollen tubes can reach 1 foot in 24 hours. The pollen just need to be hydrated from the stigma. Why would a capture on a tricome a few days before hinder that?

Have no idea. I'm not the one who said the force was strong with it.

1. Cannabis is pollinated exactly like corn and other grasses, stop coming up with theories and build a decent foundation of basic botanical knowledge to work from.

2. There is no reason for a plant to protect seeds, in fact, plants often desire predation once seeded, so that animals might spread those seeds; this is why fruit exists. Conversely, if the plant has not been seeded, it will protect itself in hopes of surviving long enough for this to change.

3. If you think Cannabis is carnivorous you should start cultivating fungus gnats and spider mites to feed them, just saying...

So do male plants create trichomes under UV or any condition for that matter? Why not?

I left a "more" out of my post but yeah thanks for harping you seem like you are dropping a ton of knowledge around here. Can't wait to learn from all your posts along with learning botany from mr wiggles. Looking through your threads Im excited to hear about it all.

So you have done side by sides with UV? Does more UV increase trichomes on males and females? Why not? What is your beef with me if you don't mind me asking? What do you care what I think trichomes do so much?

yes & yes

Oh and it's exclusive to UVB only.

Why do people think we don't know anything about cannabis? We don't know a lot about cannabinoids, et al, and how they function within the human body; however, we're talking about a crop which was MANDITORY to produce in the US until just over 50 years ago, with a 12,000 year history of cultivation prior.

Moreover, you know how THC levels have gotten so much higher? Those numbers are from the Fed, and the largest factor in the increase of THC by weight is that people started trimming bud. That right there is a massive sample size, thus a mountain of evidence that you are wrong.

But hey, at least we're not talking about smoking roots, eh? Because I've seen that too. :/
