workin pretty good. Hailed here a few times today..Was cool sitting in there.

70*in there burning a dube, listening to the hail and raid hit the plastic ...:winking0067:

Held up well, made a couple adjustments

The Plante seem to be liking it in there

Ha, hadn't seen this before posting in your other thread. Nothing quite like the feeling of finally getting a new grow environment dialed in, eh?

The Bag Worked really well. But the Makeshift green house didn't work out so good.
45mph winds tore the plastic while I was away working out of town. :(
Then it hailed  the next day, it snowed o_O
And they were revegging too.
ah man... Why did you have to bump this thread?
I wanted it to die...lol

I'll go take a pic of a couple survivors BRB

We had a Mild Start to winter early last year and I wasnt working..
Later. when I was working (Like feb) It hailed and snowed..and messed up some of that crop.
and it was to humid to be flowering..
Im retired now and home full time..And I have night lights;)
So im gonna Veg till late feb...then harvest in April and start again

Hey Ken, if I get my winter-grow up and going I will have to light dep but it's not a biggy to me. I already have some good (yet simple and cheap) ideas.

Throwing tarps over the GH would be a huge PITA but a simple pulley set-up and covers would be be quite easy to construct.

Alright Ken, I just finished a greenhouse management class where we designed a variety of structures for different plants (of our choosing) I went with strawberry's as they have the same cultural requirements for my favorite plant :D.

Anyways, If your looking for cheap go with single poly it has the pretty bad insulation but it works. You will want to also add some sort of thermostat that operates a fan maybe one thats set to RH rather then Temp.

Poly carbonate is rather expensive for what your doing by the way, you probably will be better off with poly (the flimsy plastic).

The heater could also be hooked up to a super cheap thermostat.

As for any other "green methods" from what I've seen at your garden it seems like you probably wouldnt benefit from any water warming methods in the winter, you could benefit from some other passive methods but yet again your still only getting a 1/5th of the thermal energy during the winter.

Try adding a compost pile with a pipe running through it allowing the warm compost air to vent into the greenhouse warming it. That can add a few additional degrees of warmth throughout the day and into the night.

Another thing you could do is pipe warm water into the house and run it in black pipes slowly circulating, Thats what I use in my prop house along with misters on timers.

Good luck,
Chobble
