That's why you should never put'em on the floor directly. Floor temp is not the same as ambient quality.
If they would've been up off the floor your experiment would've worked.
Run out to menards or somewhere and put down a floor heat kit and install tile over the whole thing.
Cheap to run and their feet stays warm and toastie, it will also transfer up to the rest of the plant adding extra heat to your root cellar.

OK.
No plants directly on the floor.
In those two sad trays (brought inside yesterday) it looks like 12 of 15 are just too dead to expect a recovery.
The three good ones look perfectly good.
Based on the recovery of one plant pulled back inside last week, it looks like I might be able to catch them in time if I watch closely.
So catching them before they experience hydraulic collapse is important.

The experiment goes on as most of the plants are on shelves, so the floor cold is not in play.

After a month, the bulk of hibernating plants look to still be alive.

To celebrate the new year, I have switched places for the original six.

This picture was from over a month ago.

Now, the indoor plants are badly root bound, and one of the garage girls looks dead.
So I have switched their positions, vis-a-vis indoor / garage.
I got the alignment mixed up in the re-shoot, but results are clear.
Let's see if they balance can back up in the next month.

Two weeks of recovery have turned this girl around.
New growth, and parts of damaged leafs look to be working.
Might be about time to dunk her back into the cold.

Your a sadistic mofo
I hear you.
Sure is boosting confidence in my vegetative reproduction methods.
This is what happens when rather than trash all that green, you just root and grow it.
So I have many subjects to abuse.
Over a month into trials, and those two trays where the worst of the lot.
Only a few more 'almost dead' spotted, so most look good enough to just start growing again when brought back inside.
So other than inspecting under the tarps, I sprayed with neem, mostly to keep humidity up.
I let them get too big to be easily shelved, but they don't seem to notice being bent a bit.
All in all, I think the first big fail was allowing the first round to dry out by not tenting.
Now that they are under tarps, and off the floor, (thank you motz).

The fact that there are a few other failed plants on upper shelves is a great concern.
I'll try to catch one pre-fail and see if I can arrest the fall.
Once they deflate, they die.

Glad you enjoy the show.

Experimentation is where it's at brother, just have to try to keep losses to a min.
Learning by your mistakes and adapting. Gotta keep feeding that head and don't let your mind post toastie.
I'm sure I'll learn from this also, very cool

Headline
Space war in veg exiles more cuttings to garage.
Few are granted visas into rehab on humanitarian grounds.
Losses have been high, but the struggle continues.

@Dunge
I'm wondering how this is gonna effect the plants down the line?
Sure some are coming back but with the stress you're putting on'em, gonna be interesting finishing them out?
Do they seem to have super vigor or slow growth? Perhaps doing something diff on feed and watering?
You soaking their tootsies in warm water after your fun. lol
Hope you're keeping good notes?
Good stuff there Hannibil

I think this one has been outside for about three weeks.
A new friend needed some genetics, and this one looks alive.

With legalization I hope to share the burden of maintaining keeper lines.
Wouldn't it be nice.

In the real world, this is an exploration of a useless skill.
When would one really need to do such a thing as hibernate plants?

All the 'almost dead' plants are freshly recovered from the garage, and mark the end of this grisly experience.
Some will survive to be given away in celebration of the greening of Fairbanks this spring.

I apologize for any stress that viewing these pics may have generated.

All the soil that was used in this experiment is frozen outside awaiting re-use come spring.
All it cost was my time and a few bags of Rapid Rooters.

Now I know how quickly I can over grow a veg space, and my cloning skills have improved.

I often need my plants to go on 'hold' as it were because I can't tend them, or am not home, whatever the reason may be.
