I wonder if any other growers thought of forming a growers co-op to help get prices back up where they belong so the grower can be paid for their hard work. I'm really fucking sick of the piece of shit middle man making all the money
If it fits it ships!!no more middle man!

damn I def need some of what y'all are smoking. The govt will not allow it. Ok they might let a group work together but they are still going to control every step of it. They are going to take theirs either way. Ok manufacturer demands say 2000 a lb they just make sure no one in street level sees it for less than $6000 a lb. then people aren't interested in buying it. Market goes to crap and we start having even more heroin addicts. I had a union worker with a picket crew one day pulled me up said " don't you feel you should be making $25 an hour? " I thought , then replied " let me see $15 x 40 hours or $25 x 0 hours" do the math. And at any time they can run everyone out. They can produce it cheap enough to push certified medical lab grade for say $500 a lb and still be over $400 profit. Honestly legalizing it is going to drop the prices through the floor. That's why they were in no hurry to legalize it. They are the middle man. And there really isn't a way around them. Even the street level. They know who is who what is what. It's about who pays their way. Extortion is what I call it but they don't see it that way cause they are the extorters.

The dispo's here are wholesaling to each other for 2400 a unit. There are no private suppliers as they have to procure from other dispos that have grow facilities. At least this was the price a year ago. Not sure where its at now.

While I am with you in spirit with that comment, I have to be realistic and cannot help but think once all the large monster ops are up and running there will come a time when the small farmer wont be able to afford to compete with Big Cannabis. Dreams of cooped unions are but an illusion........ They will crush us the same way lowes and home despot crushed the mom n pop hardware stores. They will be automating such large productions that a boutique grower wont be able to compete. just my .2 cents

What a rip-off you can grow enough for yourself for almost pennies. Everyone should just grow their own.

and when you compare that autogrown stuff with what is grown in a mom and pop op, the Mom and pop will win every time. I've had bud from dispensaries in Colorado that were grown in mass and it truly was crap. Yes it got me stoned, but there was no weird to it, no soul, no heart. I literally got stoned and quickly became very bored. That never happens.

As far as the co=ops happening, never say never. ionce the hyp0 is gone and government is getting their taxes, we can note several industries where companies came together to ensure prices stayed at a level where the supplier could make a decent profit and the middleman didn't waoklk away with everything. OPEC comes to mind.

That is a little better worded than what I was saying but about the same point. It is going to drive the smaller farmer out. As said there will be no way to match the prices they will produce for. Sorry if my view offended anyone it wasn't meant to.

If we work together the small farmer could destroy big cannabis. Once they get in place we flood the market with free high quality until they lose all backers. Remember backers need return on investments and can't aford to wait out a bad market for long when there are other opertunities for returns out there. What they are counting on is we are all a bunch of dumb pot heads and will roll over and play dead.

Exactly, just what we grew, that's what we're smoking. Until we get together on this you'll still be negotiating from you knees (figuratively) with the dispensaries.
When I was a contactor, we bid jobs to the general contractors, they lied to us, when we were already low bidder to get us to drop our price even more, they shopped our price to other bidders so that they could beat us, this is the same game different venue. Arguably MJ isn't without its own provenance as far as inside/outside and certainly strains and certainly crosses, but with the potential landslide of MJ in the "pipe", (pun partially intended) prices will go down, but without some push back and acting on an individual basis how much horsepower will the single grower have against that downward pressure?

great idea, but the government is going to want their tax money. And yes, they are not counting on us fighting back. We can fight back with quality.

I use this wine analogy. Most folks are happy with a $10-$20 bottle of wine. That's what they buy. These wines are mass produced, are drinkable, but are no where near the quality of a bottle of Chateau Margeaux ($1500 a bottle) or Shafer Hillside Select ($400-$500). Do you think there's a bunch of cases of Chateaux Margeaux sitting around because the price is too high? All of it gets sold every year. Same with Screaming Eagle Cabernet> Screaming Eagle never even makes it to the ghigh end wine store. It's all sold at auction and goes for $1750 a bottle and up. That's because the demand for that wine is so high from high end wine connoisseurs that no stores were able to keep any on the shelves. Now these are some of the best wines in the world.
Now most folks will buy the cheap mass produced bud mainly because they can't afford the high end stuff and because they have not developed their palates for the flavors and potency of higher end smoke. Hell, the blackberry Kush i grow literally tastes like blackberry syrup with fresh thyme and a hint of citrus on exhale. The buzz is heavy sativa. It's in a category like the Shafer Hillside Select. Some people simply cannot taste the subtle variances in flavor Cannot distinguish the differences in buzz. With a little education and training they could develop their palates to do so though. i did.

In order to command that market, you need to grow the best you possibly grow. It needs to be the best harvest after harvest. But it can be done

I agree with this. While they will mass produce they will slack in quality. Maybe not at first but it will slack eventually so in this sense they can be beat. By quality, ease of availability, and also by crosses of strains like someone else here said. They aren't going to be too pressed to cross anything they are going to take the straight easy road and take in money. But for sure there will be a market that wants only the best. But only the best will they buy. If it's all the same level they win. They are going to be all about the quicker flip. Still at any point if they feel their pocket is being dug into they will come down on people. But top notch quality and rare strains will be considered exotics and will still move steadily.

Commercially how could they hand trim tons of product, they couldn't. So just by having it run through some industrial grade machine, instead of lovingly trimming by hand would be a disadvantage from the get go.
I think most likely they would prosper more on edibles and concentrates since they would have alot of low and mid-grade shit, just thoughts.....

They pay people just to trim. Hiring now. Have rooms just for trimming. Don't need experience either. No machines at all just computer run hydro lines n co2 everything else is done by man. At least with curio wellness (curio cultivation) it is all hand trimmed. And they make edibles lotions all kinds of things. In a lab like environment. But no machines at all just a/c units and controllers for hydro n co2 with live data feeds on screen outside the grow rooms. They really are doing medical level completely uncontaminated

Hell no man. Most of us here have thick skin. If you been in the game long enough it comes with the territory.... Good to see a like minded dude on this subject. Peace.

The smaller farmer actually cares about their personal product, cares about their work. so yes the smaller farmer will have the better stuff and PEOPLE WILL SEEK THAT. . I think it will have its own class and people will be ok with paying more for it. The demand is crazy. It's all in the air right now. Just keep up good work. Good work will always pay off in the long run. The easy road is the road that leads nowhere. Just don't give up anyone. Keep doing what you do. And do it good.
