My SF carbon filter is starting to produce a....strange odor similar to ozone that is not pleasant at all. Just wondering how often yall change out your filters? And for those of you on the longer end of the scale - what brand of filters are you using?

I have 2 8” ipower fan filter combos that have been running all gas no brakes since 2020….. the exhaust still smells like sweet carbon…. I have a 400$ 950cfm Phat fillter that worked for half a cycle……with carbon filters it’s best to go cheep…..I power has amassing customer service.
If u get a bad one and reach out they will send you another.

I've been running a 4 inch Kootenay filter for 2 1/2 years and its still working like it did the day I bought it.

Its funny because I bought a backup filter just incase but its been sitting in my closet for almost 2 years. I hope it works when I need to replace lol

When a carbon air filter is saturated, you might notice it giving off a strange odor. This is a strong indicator that it’s time to change your carbon filter.

Mine is definitely giving off a strange odor.

I've been using a Can-Fan filter for a couple of years. I believe it will need to be replaced when my 5' x 5' hits week 6 of flower, but I have one standing ready.

I built this room a year ago and this is my exhaust filter set up. Neighbors window is 4 ft from my exhaust port. Never got around to actually attaching it.

AC INFINITY here. Been running since Fall of 2021. NO issues. AC INFINITY said to disassemble unit from fan. Remove sock. Reverse filter direction and reassemble.

Have not gotten to that point where I need to perform this maintenance.

Only four grows with it, so that may be why.

Best to you.

I honest to god think that they all perform longer than advertised (all about $$$) what it comes down to is getting a dud or not…. If your filter poops out within the first year it’s a dud

I have been running a large can filter for at least a year and seems to be working fine still. I got 2 of them for free with 8 inch flanges. Not fun to hang from a ceiling. Also running a muffler cause they came with the filters and fans.

And here I thought I would be the only one laughing..
You are funny!
No filter for me.
Could smell the hash plant last time before you entered the shop! 🤷‍♂️
Most laws say something about seeing plants, not smelling them?

I know in the fish world that most carbon has a very short useful life.
It depends on its exposure, but when constantly exposed to never ending source of what is supposed to be removing I would not expect a long life.

Ozone is created by all electric motors.
Check your fan man!!

I'm pretty sure my entire condo block smells when my plants are in the thick of flower, even with my carbon filter! 🤦‍♂️

My parents popped in one time and mentioned how they could smell it quite strongly from outside my garage

Seriously check your fan.
I am not sure for fans, but with pumps, anything you add that may restrict flow should be placed on the flow/ exhaust side and not the intake side.
With pumps restricting before can cause overheating as the water volume is restricted from entering.
On the return side water still enters and mixes, but the flow out is restricted allowing the pump to stay cooler.. 🤔

You can recharge any charcoal filter by boiling the charcoal for 45 minutes. My friend in L.A. has a filter cleaning business for all the grow sites in town. He has a large vat with boiling water that he just immerses the entire filter frame and all. He told me some filters have removable caps so that you can replace the charcoal but he said sometimes you can't get it back together without the right equipment, so he suggests just boiling them frame and all. If you want to really disinfect you can add vinegar to the water and that should remove any odors that may be lingering.

That’s an issue…..stick up kids only need a meer wiff….. suck air out of your space via ducting to creat negative pressure….do this ensures no air gets away before the scrubber gets it……fan should sit right on top of filter….suck air in and throw it into your filter……most filters leak near top so take a roll of tape and tape the first 2” of your filter inside and out to help that issue……if your still smelling stink then u need to upgrade…..what’s your current fan filter size?
