Family had a summer home North of Newport near the river. We were airline employees and flew into Spokane rent a car from Avis employee discount with optional full collision damage wavier...
Our motto...
First ya rent it..
Then ya wreck it..
It's an Avis renta car..
We got a...
And off we went. Spent the night at the house then went on a ride up to Canada a drinking tour.
We would head up drink in the bar, buy Canadian beer smuggle over the limit back home.
We were across the border and I took a high speed turn off down this gravel road to a gravel quarry a huge gravel lot where we a high speed side slide in loose gravel thru a ditch.
It some how buckled the right front tire and If ya let go of steering wheel car would steer to right so ya really had to hold tight on wheel to avoid going off road.'
Tire also left a small skid mark behind when moving..
Mile or so from border we put several 12 packs under hood to smuggle in.
We got to US customs and they were a bit concerned about the condition of the rental standing in front looking at damage.
We told them a moose ran in front of us and we went into ditch.
They said that happens a lot..
at that moment a the beer bottles started breaking under hood and they told us we better move along and get some coolant..
Off we went with skid mark trailing had to go pretty slow to maintain control
A few mile later A car passed us and they were waving and pointing at car we waved OK as they passed.
Just before Metaline falls we noticed them talking to a cop car roadside..
Soon we got pulled over and cops told us we could not proceed in that car.
He took us to the tavern to phone Avis.
They sent someone but it about a 3 to 4 hour drive.
We were drinking Rainer beer out of cans.My friend noticed a gallon jar of pickled eggs.
No way would I try but he was drunk enough and they tasted good. He ate about a half dozen or so and even the bartender was amazed.
I have never seen anyone so sick and he turned green heaving up all the canned beer and pickled eggs, even dry heaving for several hours.
10 pm no Avis guy so we decided to drive the car anyway.
We got a ride to car drove just out of town and ran out of gas.
Some fella brought us gas by then it was 11pm or so, as soon as we took off there was the Avis guy, he got lost.
we jumped into his car I drove spent night at house despite his complaints and returned rental next day..
Good thing for full CDW...
My friend Lou lives in Seattle and I am certain no more pickled eggs for him, or canned Rainer..
