How close should light fixtures be to the plants?
Veg?
Bloom?
Thanks
Believe heat is a bigger issue than light. 1000W HPS in a water cooled fixture works great at 6". DoubleDs vegs as close as 8" with a 1000W and a reflector. You need to slowly move the light a little closer every few days till you reach your distance. The problem is the closer the light is the smaller the area it that it covers. Lets say you have a good reflector that covers 36" wide area at 18" away. At 8" away you only cover a 16" wide area.
Another problem is moisture stress, your feeding system has to be able to deliver the extra water your plant will need to deal with the increased light.
If your doing a
sea of green, horizontal lights with reflectors, you may want to look at it from the stand point of getting even light distribution. Lower the lights too much and the plants between the lamps don't get as much light as the plants right under the light. If a plant between two lamps gets 50% as much light, but is getting the light from two lamps its almost like being under it. Hope that helps.
