Oh, someone mentioned mice? How the fuck do you get them to get nailed in the snap traps? Seriously. They've tripped two traps, haven't touched the cashew, but are eating the fuck out of my biggest heirloom squashes (Marina di Chiogga, completely ugly, rather tasty, I used a young one for pumpkin pie and it was awesomejuice). I think I'm breeding the little fuckers.

Or... could it be rats? The bite marks were looking like mice to me, but the traps haven't gotten a thing so I think whatever it/they is/are is big enough to trip the trap, but isn't getting caught. Too fast? Too big?

Yup Ken, the Red Wigglers are much cheaper but they also much smaller being only an inch long or so. The Super Red Worms I got are larger (4-5 inches) and better suited for composting...but as you have seen a bit more pricer. Still, no matter how ya go, that's a lotta effing' worms. Not only will they add worm castings to the soil and aerate as well but they will break down all the kitchen scrap and stuff. AND they will multiply in numbers as well. I'll use some for fishing too.

And yes ya gotta feed the little slimers too.My GH soil gets all my kitchen scraps, egg shells, newspapers, leaves and some horse manure. I spoke with Jim "The Worm" when I placed my order and he highly suggested I keep my worms warm by covering my beds with straw during the winter months. It's too damn cold here and the little guys would easily freeze.

I'll prolly get the smaller wigglers next time around.

Your RH looks purdy high in there.
=====================================
from Jim's site:

Our Super Red Worm is the "Big Brother" of the red worm. It grows to the length of 4-5 inchs long and is very active. It makes a great composting worms but its forte is being added to lawn and garden soils. Its a very strong worm and specializes in aeration and fertilization of the soil. The tunnels it burrows allows water and other nutrients to reach the root systems of your lawn and gardens. Proper aeration of soil guarantees excellent root growth and strength. This worm populates quick and is also excellent for fishing.
  • A "Can't go Wrong" Worm!
  • Easy to raise
  • Grows to 4-5" in length (2 to 5 times bigger then regular red worms and just as active)
  • Heat and Cold Resistant
  • Breeds quickly
  • Perfect fit for any compost bin or pile
  • Great for Lawn or Garden Soil Aeration and Fertilization
  • Excellent fish bait

Or

will they snap out of it?

I am curious where the mites are now? Not kickin it in cold, but I wonder if they laid a billion eggs for when weather is better?

I think those 2 cats fertilizing the greenhouse might be something to consider.

I sprayed Floramite sc a few weeks ago..I havent seen a sign of any mites since..
I hope it killed the eggs too.
But if not, I dont think the mites wil be a problem out side

I have seen several Praying mantis cacoons around the garden.
.Maybe I will bring a couple in the GH:)

My mouse/rat problem is in the basement. It'd be mean to lock up kitty in the basement like that. Not that it hasn't happened, but it's always been accidental.

Ken, when you say too big, do you mean the traps or the 'mice'?
