I think I have an emergency :((

Where did you get your seeds so I never buy from them?

I appreciate pointing towards breeder but I don’t think so, or at the least I think it would be a combination of something I’ve done. The breeder is Brother’s Grimm. I’ve since learned that Mr. Soul is basically an asshole but plenty of people do seem to love his seeds.

This is his “new” Cindarella 99 crossed with an S1 white truffles. Not a lot of grower reports but all are positive. The website lists these seeds as being “indestructible.”

I don’t know if I should cull them or take the screen out so that I can pull the plants out and scout them for a week, hope for the best that they stop putting out out male flowers within 10 days and reinstall the screen.

The screen is rather necessary but I’m willing to manage them by hand intensively of there’s any real hope.

Can you guys recommend a handful of breeders that have very low to no hermie issues? I should get some seeds asap. I have clones of each of these plants but I really don’t think I should mess with them. I mean the only thing I can point to as far as my mistakes is defoliation a bit too often and having a crowded tent. I’m not sure if the latter is a big driver of causing hermies.

it is what it is,.. you messing around in there is only making things worse.. just let them finish as they are..
seeds in buds is no big deal,.. when i used to smoke weed it all had seeds and blew us away more than anything today..
also no way you’ll be able to stop it..

Gotcha. I guess I’ll just pluck what I do find and keep monitoring them and just take it from here and see how it goes. As of last night I have a fair number of half browning pistils, but ONLY on the pre-12/12 pistils. I find that curious because I feel like there is very close to no way that any male flowers opened up before the flip, not to mention there was no browning prior to the flip, so it seems odd that if a male flower opened up anywhere that it wouldn’t have pollinated any of the buds developing. What else could cause that, out of curiosity?

unstable genetics or any form of stress to the plant,.. could be from the light/feeding/pruning/
pest/mildew/18/6 to 12/12…

I don’t believe I have pests as every type of blemish I’ve ever seen on the plants gets looked at between 40-120x under a microscope. Also have a hepa filer on my intake fan.

Temps go from around 79-80 to 70-72 at night. Occasional and very brief 10-11 degree temperature drops. Feeding has been a learning process but I’ve never seen them horribly stressed out by overfeeding, just a bit of stress there I think.

Biggest issue I think I’ve had are these blemishes. Not on every leaf by any means but has been a present issue here and there. Any idea what might cause this?

But actually I think I know maybe what caused it. I didn’t get a screen in early enough and when I put one in 3 days ago, I carefully fed the tops through quite a ways. I spent well over an hour doing so. Didn’t damage any leaves but handled them quite a bit, carefully pulling leaves through. So probably the handling of so much of the plant was a big enough stress? You can see from the side how much I fed through.

Maybe the blemishes under the microscope are downy mildew and it’s been with them all along?

no doubt it..
stress could of happened early in life..
i wouldn’t worry about it, as you keep growing and learning you’ll know what’s what and why mostly… as your there and know everything that’s happening with feeding watering lights equipment etc..

Cool. When I flipped, I went to an HPS at 24” high up, but then had a bulb issue and went back to a 400 watt MH for 3 days, then back to HPS and day by day brought that down to 16” with no signs of heat stress.

Maybe the bulb switch did it?

See the thing is, the plants have essentially been very happy and healthy. If I started these same plants but with the experience I’ve gained so far, the only major thing I would have done differently would be to top down to two nodes instead of three in order to have less tops.

I think what has me worried is that Grimm seeds are not known to often be hermies, and the overall stress I’ve seen throughout the grow has been very slight.

Well that and the fact that due to the vigorous growth and tight space, I had the urge to lightly defoliate to maintain airflow at the sides of the tent and between the plants where leaves were growing into one another.

So mistakes that I have learned from are this:
1) Crowded tent but not more crowded than I’ve seen with other grows.

2) Probably should have defoliated more during veg so that I would not have to defoliate every few days during stretch, or at least not have had the feeling that I “needed” to for airflow and providing space.

3) Having to switch back to MH after day 2 of the flip for a few days.

4) possibly 15-16” being to close to have the HPS by day 10 of the flip (82 is the highest leaf surface temperature I have ever recorded anywhere)?

5) Installing a screen too late which caused me to handle every top to feed through the screen.

You think these are enough lessons to have learned to probably have prevented them from becoming hermies if I did this over again?

you went from 18/6 to 12/12 is probably what did it.. maybe that along with genetics..

Those would be tester seeds so not the stablest ponies in the stable.

Yeah true. Probably a bad idea in retrospect to run my whole tent with testers.

I have 2 cuttings from each of the plants. I must say I was very much looking forward to growing one or two of them out again since I know how they grow now and who likes how much nutrients.

Chuck em’ or try 16/8 with a gradual decrease and manage them better with my knowledge of their growth habits?
