Sigh. I have a 400 watt light and a viparspectra 100 watt. I understand that my 400 watt light is to much for the area. Just run around 50%tops.
The only tent size you gave is 3 x 3, what is your current grow area?

You stated 1000 watts was Prime! then said you bought a 100watt how is that more than capable? lol (by your own definition you're 900 watts shy of more than capable)
I didn't state that. I had the 100. Read it should be more light and bought a 450 watt mars hydro light. My 450 watt is way more than I need. I'm not an idiot. My whole plan was 1 plant in a bathtub so I bought a 100 watt light.

What's the model of the 100-watt ViparSpectra light? Is it the XS1000?

A bathtub. I was only going to grow 1 plant in the beginning. It all escalates from there.
That 100-watt light might be enough for a bathtub grow. Meanwhile, if you can't return it, the 450-could stay in the box till you have the space to use it. It's a good size for a 4x4 tent.

Don't beat yourself up. There's a lot to learn during the first few grows. One big lesson I learned was what type of growing was best for me. So, I suggest setting the goal of getting through your first grow. It feels great when you get there.

Probably would be enough light, getting through he first grow is the goal for sure. People have to keep expectations low

I have an XS1000. It's 100 watts. I haven't used it much. I was going to use it for seedlings and early veg but never got it done. Too many projects. It's a good light, though, and probably would be enough light for a complete grow in a space the size of a 2x2 tent.

I use the 150 and it's plenty powerful for my 2 x 2.5 x 6. 100 would get her done

Better suited for veg in that space, 1500 would be a better choice so you don't have to max out light/driver and gets you over 30w per sqft.

I can only fit 3x3 unless I can use a bigger space. Money is an object and moving to a 4x4 is more expensive. Would need a 6" exhaust and the tent cost. I have some money coming in and planned on a 3x3 ACinfinity cloud lab and a 4" pro with wifi controller. To move to a 4x4 is around 100 dollars more. I need to be thankful for what I can afford. Why won't the 450W work in a 3x3. Does it take up to much space? You don't have to run it full. So unless there are constraint issues for a 3x3 that is what I can afford. I can't afford to drop down anymore cash then that. It's already 300 hundred dollars and that is pushing it. I have gone through different choices and this is the best I can afford.

As long as the frame fits the i.d. of tent you are fine with 450. Start power low and bring it up slow every couple days. Plants will tell you if they want more or to back it off. Just make sure you mount as close to top of tent as you can, have to get creative to get the height in tent. As you grow more you'll appreciate being able to push them harder.

I would get a 6 inch extractor fan with a 3 x 3 personally . I utilize negative pressure

Well going 4x4 is less than I thought. It would be without controller which isn't a big deal I suppose. If my wife allows I will go 4x4. Is the ac infinity 6" exhaust more than ample for their 4x4?
Yea the 4 inch is not powerful enough to make the carbon filter work correctly in late flower. I wish with my 2 x 2.5 x 6 I had opted for 6 inch. It REEKS in late flower in my house

What I did is slowly build my setup over a few years, finding discount codes and deals, researching, all while growing so I added 1 or 2 pieces more per grow. It worked for me anyways at least

It looks like you're getting some good advice. I'm sure you can use the 450-watt light in a 3x3 if it fits. I fasten my lights to the top with zip ties. My fan is at the top vent. I use a 4-inch fan in my 2x2 and a 6-inch fan in my 2x4. I don't use a carbon filter, though. We like the aroma and don't care what our neighbors think.

Yean. I only mentioned the smaller light to help save you some $$$. Go with the big one if you can make it work.

That's a tough choice. A good controller is a joy for the grower. That's after having figured out how to use it and have everything connected. The only times I have to open my tent is to feed and water the plants. On the other hand, it's hard to grow without a good tent. It's certainly possible, though.

A 6-inch exhaust is fine for a 4x4. I started with that setup, but downsized. A 4x4 takes up a surprisingly large amount of space. Consider all the miscellaneous stuff that goes with it.

Yeah. It's definitely a process. 🤣

I'm still buying stuff. I just put a new light in my smaller tent.

My dilemma exactly. I can't afford another light so I'd be screwing myself if it didn't fit. The light is 24" wide so that at most leaves 6" on either side. A 3x3 would be perfect.

I miss wrote this. A 3x3 is best for me. With the light being 24 inches wide
Is it normal for lights to take up so much of the ceiling?

it will give a more even light coverage on tent border, but don't use it full power too close to the plants.
