I think the use of large numbers of low wattage omnidirectional lighting is underutilized in horticulture, especially dealing with lots of small plants or cuttings. It's light that doesn't burn, and comes from everywhere, promoting bushy growth with short internodes.
The other extreme is the use of one light to cover a large area, and I'm working on a design that users this approach here; (this damned website just flat refuses to work with Google Android word processing and paste where it's told!)
