I really didn’t see anything malicious about it! No real kicking motion! But I don’t know that much about the rules! Maybe sliding with your feet that high is an automatic red card! I thought it just looked like incidental contact! But it doesn’t take much contact in soccer to earn you a card! Lol!

It used to be if you make contact with the ball first anything runs. Over the years they have gotten stricter to protect players from dangerous tackles like this. In my opinion it was a foul because the studs were open and went flying into his leg, unintentionally but that is the risk of flying in like that. A red card was a bit harsh though as it was completely unintentional.
