what up peeps. jacks back.

Ran out of jacks a while back and decided I would make the move to all raw salts. My plants did not like this, and so I am going back to a modified jacks formula, which was working great for me before.

I ordered the following from JR peters:

jacks classic blossom booster 10-30-20
jacks cal nitrate 15-0-0
jacks professional hydro formula 5-12-26
MOST
pH adjuster

I also have, which I ordered from cutomhydronutrients (those guys are the best):

Magnesium nitrate
0-0-50 sulfate of potash
MKP
MAP

and from the local pharmacy a 6lb bag of epsom salts.

So I got the MOST. It does not look the same as the STEM, even though the GA's are the same I think. This time, it came with a descriptive sheet for each product, and I read the MOST page.

Since I started on jacks, I have gone from adding .1 MOST to .2 MOST more recently. And here lies my problem I believe (for starters). The sheet recommends that if using a 15% nitrogen fertilizer, you should only add 2oz MOST per 25 lb bag. That's roughly .005 grams per gallon. A far cry from my values.

Now I have done quite a bit of reading up on other successful growers and their formulas, and it seems to me I have found a ratio that will work very well, or so I think.

I will be running this (all in per gallon values):

2.5 grams hydro
2.13 cal nitrate
.2 Cacl2
.095 MKP
.55 k2so4
.71 epsom salts
.005 MOST

which will give me 120-40-210-120-60 and the sulfur will be at 103.

first I will add the hydro, MKP, MOST, and K2so4 in a 5 gallon bucket of warm water and mix until dissolved. I will add this to a full res of RO water, and MIX well.

then I will add the epsom salts the same way

finally the CaNO3 and CaCl2 in the same way.

this is per manufacturers directions. So much fucking around... trying to be a mad scientist. its not working so I am gonna follow some directions (not all) from the people who are celebrating their 65th anniversary in fert blending.

I have seedlings that just popped. they are FPOG crosses. FPOG x kosher kush, FPOG x WiFi, and FPOG x my Colombian landrace. I will start a journal on them which I will link here. I will use this formula (25% strength for seedlings, 50% when they are 4-6" tall, and full strength at 12" until week 4 of flower, when I will change the formula to drop the N slightly and boost P and K.

My goal is to have all the plants thriving. No yellowing, no toxicities, no deficiencies, all the way through.

the medium will be 50/50 big and chunky perlite and botanicare washed sterile coco in a bag.

Whats up Cap! Working on some profiles now with Jacks. Got my most in as well. I dont use ro water as my tap is clean and pure with really no ppm. Ive been using double stacked hugos, but this time im using growstones! They are pretty cool and I know they will work great with the Jacks.

Hope you are doing well and thank you for sharing this information. This is going to be a great thread!

Good Luck Cap, I'm sub'd bro. Can't wait to see how things go for you. Been thinking about making my own nutes for awhile but alas no time to dedicate to it. Building out a brand new veg room.

"making" your own nutes using jacks and a couple extra salts is as easy as pouring liquid form a bottle, all you need is a good scale. You will hop on the bandwagon soon.

I'm with sdgrower, I love Jack's. With Jack's I've just about eliminated my trips to the hydro shop. I run the basic 3,2,1 formula with my tap water which is about 37 ppm. Have been looking into using their bloom booster but I've been so happy with my results that I'm not sure if it make that much difference. Given the amount of money I save using Jack's I'm considering trying it along with the Aptus line up.

What problems were you having with the MOST at .2g gallon?
Love me some Jacks!

for a one time boost jr peters suggests .28 grams per gallon. I was running close to the this continuously. I think it was causing lockout. My plants look like shit right now. I will take a picture and post later today.

hey cap

Werent you using the same amount of MOST at that time with your run with purple K without any issues ? You have mentioned this in your thread " recipe for success"

Thanks for the heads up. I've been running it at .2 for a little over a month with no problems to date but I'll keep my eyes open.
Is anyone using 3,2,1 with cal-nit at 3 and the jacks pro at 2 for veg? If so what are your thoughts?

Pug 3,2,1 at half strength with Moab at full strength for weeks 6 and 7 on a 9 week strain works great and doesn't cost much either.

I'm a jack's fan. For my base nutes I alternate between jack's cal nitrate/hydro bloom, and general organics.

Cap, I was wondering why you think the MOST is needed?...the hydro bloom seems to already have decent levels of the main micro's needed...except for mag which epsom salts takes care of.

When I first started using jacks I was told by a rep at jr peters that if I was using RO water I should be using a little MOST. I started with .1gram/gallon and had some of my best runs ever with that. I bumped to .2 and still did great. When I dropped the jacks though and added magnesium nitrate to get the smae elemental ppms of the formulas I was running, things went south.

PK is an easy plant to grow. She is not finicky about her nutes.

Mixed the first batch in a 100 gallon tank, RO water
EC = 1.6, pH at 5.7. No adjustments. Just right.

I wanted to explain why I bumped the MOST up. I was shooting for more boron. around 1ppm. Anyway it's time to get back to basics and grow some healthy plants!

In your 1st post when you listed the rates per gallon of each fertilizer, those are in grams, correct??
