Grow Log 8/9/18

The second day after watering, growth tips limp and soil is still moist. The temps are down nearly 10F but I don't think that's the primary reason for the decrease in water consumption. Last year when the girls cycled into flower their water needs decreased by half. Was down to as little as 5gal twice a week nearing harvest and I only did that to feed them.

August 14th, last year. They were a third-half the sise of my current plants but were so so pretty. The Royal Nepal Kush were thick and green, with big fat leaves. Loved those girls and want to grow them again. I have one RNK bean left and a 50/50 chance for a female (unless I find more). Started 2 this year and the both went male. Pretty sure it was my fault but now I understand how to use my lights without frying them. Live and learn. Don't want to hatch it unless I'm equipped to handle a male though. Can't afford to lose these genetics. Need to do it by next spring to not risk the viability of the seed.

I think the spider mites were making my Orange Creamsicle anemic. Had the same thing happen last year. For some reason they love the OC. Barely any on my other girls. First follow up Azamax spray yesterday, 5-5-5 days, and top dressed the OC's soil with bat guano this morning. It's like I can't feed this strain enough nitrogen.

The difference in color between the OC and Banana Ice Cream...

Feeding her this morning worked to get a bit of green back. Don't know if the guano works that fast but the salt I'm using has nitrogen as well.

The girls were showing signs of nutrient burn this morning. Had given them a number of small waterings to keep them from getting dehydrated from the Azamax. Fed them yesterday but I backed off on the amount of water I gave them with the feeding in an attempt not to overwater. Bad idea. Was confronted with burnt tips and curled leaves this morning. Gave them a good 2x flush and most of the leaves perked back up in minutes. The rest were well on their way when I left the garden. I keep a diligent eye on the health of my girls checking them several times daily. If I weren't on top of this it could have been tragic (learned from last years mistakes).
Started to recover as I was flushing them.

I learned last year, when in doubt, flush.

Nice one catching that burn early on :smoking: Guano is some seriously strong stuff. I'm guessing they'll be able to ride out on plain water for a bit longer now. Looking like some solid monsters no doubt about that.

Thanks. Yeah, the burn hadn't reached the sawtooths yet so I think they're good.

I only top dressed the OC. It's super nitrogen hungry, even while in the early bloom cycle. The burn on all of the girls could be the funky way I watered or that they shifted fully into the flower cycle after that slight reveg stall when the forest fire smoke cleared. I think I dodged a bullet using Cha Ching which still has a little nitrogen.

Was kinda worried about the noodley leaves. Looked at some videos from this dude who breeds and they were floppy too. His were indoor so their leaves were a little more stout but I could still see it. Either we both f^cked em up or it's their African Sativa ancestry. I'm leaning towards the latter.

Here's some pics of what I'm talking about. I think as they dry out they'll lift back up. It appears to be a Banana trait (don't know which one, kush, sativa, OG, etc, but since they're from the same breeder it's likely the same parent genetics. Even the unidentified one curls and noodles.) I think I may have just exacerbated that trait with the nute burn (and it was evening when I took these pics so they were a bit deflated for the night).

The OC has very strong Indica structuring and yield. The early flowering and shorter flowering time are also from it's Indica genetics. It's coloring and effects are where the Sativa shows up.

The flush appears to have done the trick. Everybody is looking happy and healthy. The leaves have firmed up and the sun hasn't even touched them yet. Good sign.

The OC is exceptionally perky this morning. Like I said, it loves the nitrogen and can't seem to get enough. The bat guano is hot enough to carry her through to harvest, but not so hot as to burn her (So far. Fingers crossed but fairly confident.) I left it out in the elements last winter to cool it down.

Everybody is selling seeds online but is anyone selling pollen? I would love to dust a few branches with Durban Poison or Malawe. It would be awesome if I could roll them back into THCv super strains. The Banana Crack already has a high THCv potential with it's dominant African ancestry. THCv is the whole reason I want to breed and why I grew in the first place. If I can produce strains nearing, and possibly surpassing 2%, they would be some rare birds and I would be a very (skinny) happy camper.

Good question that would be pretty cool if pollen was sold. Glad to see the flowers coming along. I just got home from a little trip and mine are finally starting to flower as well. It's been in the mid 80's and they are loving it! I'm a huge fan of Durban Poison. I grew some a while back and am sad I never kept it around. Something about that strain was unique and I loved it. Maybe because it's higher in THCv

80F is near perfect temps.

I'll check the net to see what's out there. Should be pollen somewhere.

Supposedly, THCv hits hard and drops off rapidly but my experience with a 1%+ THCv Durban is like a 10 cup coffee mule kick and a crystal clear, long lasting, even drop off over a few hours. Whenever I wanted to clean house or car repair I'd burn a Trainwreck 10% x Durban 80%-90% (x Girl Scout Cookies 10%), llitttt-up & energized.

It's also an appetite inhibitor. I lost around 40lbs smoking it last summer. Gained it back last winter (when the delivery service ran out of Durban).

Almost time for those great night flower shots. They're just starting to get light reactive. I don't know if it's just how Banana grows but they look to me like they reveg'd for a short time. Hairs are showing up again.

Still got a little curl on the young leaf tips of two Ice Creams. Not sure if anything is wrong with them. Still learning about those Sativa.

My fan gets hitchhikers all the time. They fly off of it and come back several times before leaving so I know it's not accidental. I think maybe they're cooling down. Big 'ol dragonflies.

Did an overall health check of the leaves.

No noticable pest activity. The damaged/freckled sections of leaves are now surrounded by unblemished deep greens. The mites I've found have all been dead, and spiders too. Only thing that damaged my leaves was a katydid that I killed.

Banana Ice Cream #1, this is the smallest of the three at around 7'. She's in a much shallower pot than the other two. This one has a lot of tip curl and noodling. I think it's genetics. Judging by the variations it doesn't look like a very stable strain but I like that about it. I have a better chance for some high THCv flowers. It's been hit and miss with different batches of Durban Poison and Girl Scout Cookies I've smoked.

Banana Ice Cream #2, tallest of the three. Has that heavy African Sativa look like the little one without the red stems and leaves are more perky.

Banana Crack, at 9'x6'-8' she is the biggest in the garden. Heavy African Sativa look like the other banannas.

Banana Ice Cream #3, she leans a bit more Indica/Kush than the other two Bananas with stout perky leaves. She is the biggest overall of the three with two secondary stalks nearly the sise of the primary.

Orange Creamsicle, heavy indica flowering and leaf structure. Already well into bloom.

Idunnoes (I don't know, it was an unlabeled freebie), African Sativa leaf characteristics like the Banana strains. Grew tall extremely fast. I turned her into a tree because her lower branches were thin with wide internodal spacing.
