I can't see them going obsolete. I bought my hlg over 2 yrs ago and it's still right up there.

But I agree it's a cost vs gain. In terms of kingbright I thinks it's the best budget option available.

That's fair. The tradeoff is really the warranty.

I agree with everything you said, the heatsink has shallower fins than the hlg lights, the diodes are probably just under top bin, and the specs are likely copied and pasted from american brands that were testing their own products. That being said I am not seeing a practical difference in performance compared to my other lights and with these being less than half as expensive I have no complaints at all.

Thank you for actually giving some relevant information, I have no intention of defending the shortcomings of these lights I just think they are a good value in spite of them

Mine came unassembled with provided wiring and connectors that are identical to what I received from hlg. If any of the wiring was done wrong that would be on me for making a mistake. I haven't seen people post the issues you are describing and I did look before I made my purchase but maybe I didn't use the right terms. If you can find any of those posts or threads can you link to them here?

I cant. But there are threads with the builders commenting on another forum.

Nothing to debate I agree they grow great plants but do a side by side with the gavita or fluence. Both of which should be run with CO2. Idk why so defensive? I absolutely agree they get the job done and get it done well. But the fact is there are differences. Idk how that can be ignored.

I'm not trying to bash them by any means just discussing the facts not debating.

On Kingbrites? I agree with Aqua about the heat sink, and if some of the diodes aren't top bin I wouldn't know how to tell. But I haven't seen the immediate failure/ 6 month failure/ warranty not honored with them.

To me, given similar enough operating costs, lights boil down to a relatively simple formula.

Gross cost/ watt: warranty years

A 240w Kingbrite will cost around $200 shipped, $0.83 per watt. The warranty is for one year, so the ratio of cost per watt to warranty year is $0.83:1.

A 260w HLG is around $350 shipped. That's $1.34/w. Their warranty info varies product to product on the site, so for the sake of argument we'll assume that it's the same 3-year one they offer with their new lights. Then the HLG comes in at $1.34:3, or $0.45:1.

So if the HLG lasts 3 years and the Kingbrite lasts 1 and I have to buy a new one, it's more cost effective to go with the HLG.

But! The cost per watt on the kingbrites improves over the second to $0.41 and, assuming it lasts that long, to $0.27 third year.

So if a Kingbrite light works for 20 months and needs to be replaced after, it's still more cost effective than the HLG.

Also, keep in mind that the LED market has been evolving rapidly. Would I want to be running a 3 year old light when so much has changed in the last 18 months? Do I want to pay top dollar for something that might be essentially obsolete in 24 months?

Well put, its all about value.

Wasnt saying the GPW. Number specifically was something to brag about I was making the comparison that in a garden the that is stable and consistent that cheap china lights can easily achieve the same results and a Nextlight Mega or a Spydr.

HA HA Funny, Sydr is Fluence.

SPYDR 2i high-performance top-lighting solution - Fluence Bioengineering

The SPYDR 2i is a high-performance top-lighting solution for commercial cannabis growers who want to push the envelope with high-PPFD cultivation practices.

Value wise I’ve had my kingbrites 3-4 months and they have already paid for themselves ! And my only complaint so far is the heat sync, just a poor design

You bring up a good point about having to use co2 to get the most out of those lights. Its like how people spend a fortune for performance cars or suvs even though most will never take them to a track or off road. I mean if you (meaning anyone) run a sealed room with co2 then by all means, buy the nicer lights and reap the benefits but if you don't have or plan or having that kind of setup its much harder to justify the extra expense.

My experience with Chinese LED's has been anything but good. My first LED was a Mars reflector burple light. Never tried to flower under it but it lasted 2 years and was great for flower. Next was another try with Mars TS1000, they both had the same issue within 4 weeks of each other and that was after 6 months of use. Moving on we have Bestva, well that stuff is just at out and out lie. Lastly we have Growers Choice ROI-680. They lasted 2 good rounds before they deceided to quit shutting off. The growers choice are probably the best side by side I could do with a Chinese LED and the Gavita 1650. Long story short the Growers Choice will not product as well as the Gavita's and the Gavita's are still going strong.
So while the kingbrties will product flower they are just not on the same level at Gavita or Fluence.

You dont see any problem with your opinion of Kingbrite lights being based on solely on your experience with blurples and a strip light from other brands, none of which even used samsung diodes? I cant speak for anyone else but I never said that kingbrite is better or on the same level as gavita or fluence, but how do you argue that those lights are a better value for most home growers?

First of all my opinion is not based solely on my experience regarding a Burple or a strip light. My experience with Chinese LED's is at a total of 6 lights at this point. The only one that lasted was the burple Mars reflector series. Please take a look at the Growers Choice ROI-680. It is on par with both the Gavita and Fluence but the outcome is not the same. It produces less than the Gavita and Fluence. While I respect the fact that you have added home grower to this conversation, it does not change things. Additionally, I have not stated where I grow.
I understand defending a purchase, it is just like Little Dabbie until his blowout. He was also in love with the China LED but that all changed yesterday. Just as @MIMedGrower has stated numerous times there is nothing stopping the china companies from calling the LED's what ever they want. They can stamp Samsung 301 all day long on the LED and it will still be counterfeit or not top bin. Secondly, he has also been over there purchasing products before and the price goes up once you want the true manufacturers parts.

I believe the lights will grow buds but not at the level of HLG, Fluence or Gavita.

Companies from any country are capable of doing all the misleading things you have mentioned, suggesting that only the Chinese do it is pretty racist. Its not like "Chinese leds" is a company, your experience with those other lights give you no insight on kingbrites products. Also like you stated, you never said where you grow, why not? Don't you think that would add context to your opinions that would help the people reading them make up their own minds?

Again my biggest issue with the arguments that you, lildabbie, and even mimedgrower make is that you either can't or won't back them up with anything beyond saying what you believe or heard without any personal experience. You all may very well be right which is why it would be helpful to see where you are getting your info from. Until then all I have is my personal side by side experience with kingbrite, hlg, and timber, so far the kingbrites are holding their own.

And after all thats what matters. You didnt have initial problems like bad circuit board or the like so if they work for you and you are happy youre good. If and when the boards fail will really be the only factor for you.

You can call my comments Racist all you want, it does not change the fact that out of 6 Chinese LED's, 5 have taken a dump and the only one that is still working is an early model purble.
Did I not just show you a comparison with Growers Choice and Gavita?
Look I understand your human nature to want to defend your purchase. I think most people have a natural instinct to do so. I am just on here trying to inform the guys getting started to simply buy it once and be done. I sure I will hear the response that the LED industry is changing so fast but to be honest. Fluence and Gavita have made a change in the last year but the change is not overly significant.

I'm not really defending my purchase, just sharing my experience. You're not really informing anyone of anything other than your bias based on other products just because they came from the same country.

I think it’s merica well at least where I’m at, and as long as the individual is aware of there purchase who really cares what other people think ? As long as ur happy with ur results

For me again I’m happy with my kingbrites, however my next light will prolly be a hlg 550/650 v2( after Xmas hopefully) and I’ll use a mars 240 for seedlings and early veg

Aren’t we always looking for something better ?
