I think that one of the four seeds sprouted upside down (see photo). I have heard that it will right itself (will still reorient itself based on gravity & moisture).

One of the babies has already started stretching so i had to build a support using a pipe cleaner.

a couple things to try, but probably the safest is to turn the cube over and carefully make a hole for the cotyledon to come out, OR, very carefully and slowly pull the RW apart and use tweezers to lift the plant (but not by the root) , then flip it over and reinsert

Things are still looking good. Except for the runt. It is not looking too good. I don't see any deformation of the RW to indicate growth underneath. The Other three seem to be healthy. Nutes in the res are at 25%; ( CNS-17, hydroguard, cal-mag, liquid O2, along with a full measure of +Life microbes & such.) Lights are running.

Here we are two days later and things have turned ugly for the runt! 😒

Since i now have roots, i have lowered the vpd so that it is below 1.0 thus increasing the RH.

The other two are viable . . . so far.

Ain't that the friggin' TRUTH!!!

As I said on my post to your site earlier; I think my luck my be changing with regards to this germ. thing. I was pleased to find that i had 4 out of 4 pop not the 3 that i mentioned earlier.

4 Moby Dick XXL autos on and poppin'

So now i will actually start the grow data spreadsheet and my grow diary site (in addition to this one) :)

Today
;

Do you think starting seeds is easiest method to germ/most success rate in root riots like Mediums , Gordan’s like or other ? I’m thinking since I switch to grodan for my clones (why the fuck use root riots only for seeds lol)

Love to hear other people’s opinions ,experiences And views points ( that’s why I’m on I’m on thcf ;) )

And liquid o2 is what.... hydrogen peroxide?..that doesn't go good with hydro guard...

Thanks for that tip!

I obviously did not know that. I will stop at once.

I still think your rw is getting to wet by the looks of the pics...

Is it possible that keeping the RH so high did not allow the RW to drain properly? Otherwise i cannot explain the moisture on the topside.

Do you have air going in tank?if so shut it off.the mist will soak them...idk...I think you're going to keep having issues growing like that...just need to figure out how you can keep extra water away from the rw...that was my biggest issue when I first started.are you top feeding also? Try a spray bottle,mist plants, lightly...theses are only suggestions.... what works for me may not work well for you...

To be honest; i too am looking at other germinating mediums. This RW situation is really beginning to piss me off. I know that the problem is probably a compounding of my own short comings of my "need" to get it right; my lack of growing experience and my insane need for coming up with a repeatable process.

Morning;

Yes, i HAD air going into the lower chamber. I did use a spray to mist, perhaps i was to heavy handed. i will investigate other ways to keep water away from the RW.

the top feeding is routed to the outside edge of the hydrostone. Day before yesterday, i removed/rerouted the top-feed lines so they do not come in contact with hydrostone or RW.

I will overcome!!!

Ok, Still have two survivors that seem to be growing.

Still Misting but only once per day when i open cabinet to refill humidifier. I take photos, mist and close the cabinet again for 24 hours.

It has been over a week since i last reported. I am down to two plants and each has issues. Down turned tips and discoloration.

I will be dropping the PH down to 5.5 for sure and will also bring up nutes to 50% strength. Suggestion on the down turned tips?

I run 6-6.5 to start...I spray with my well water at 7.2... I'll drop down to 5.8 at the end but never any lower..I like 6 myself..wish I need more about everything you have set up how it's set up how your mixing nutes how high is water where is rockwool set in hydration.ect...this should be stupid easy..

For my RDWC I use rapid rooters with a humidity dome. I microwave them singly for 45 sec on high to kill any eggs etc. that may be in them. Then just put em in the tray and follow the instructions to moisten. No feed and no water after that for close to a week. If you need to moisten then just use a spray bottle and mist the rooters. I start opening the the holes on the dome once true leaves start about 1/4 every other day. Keep my temps approx 80F. I put a towel on my cable box and place it on there lol but a heating mat with temp control would be ideal.

Once you see roots coming out of the rooters I add washed hydrocorn to the net pots about 1/3 full then place the rapid rooter in and fill the rest with hydrocorn. Then set the water level to about about 1/2" below the net pot. The bursting bubbles will be enough to keep the rapid rooters moist until the roots hit the water so no need to top feed. Then drop the water 1" below the net pot and add about 300ppm of nutes. From there i just read the plants. If my water level is going down and PPM is the same I'm right where i need to be. If my water level and PPM is going down they need more nutes and i up the ppm. I also watch the coloring of the plants that will give you a good fool proof way to tell that your feeding the most you can without burning.

I use a lux app on my phone for the first while to get close and then dial in a by plant response. 5000-10,000 lux for seedling and start ramping up more once I hit 4 nodes.

I germinate using the paper towel method. Soak seeds in distilled water for 16-18 hrs whether they pop or not. Then use 2 plates and wet the paper towel put seeds on it and fold paper towel in half covering them. I use like 3 paper towels so I don't have to re moisten. You don't want them super wet just moist you should not see any sitting water on them before placing the seeds in the paper towel. Place the 2nd plate on top (eating surface facing each other) and place in a warm spot ideally 80F. Once the tap roots are about 1" put them about 3/4" tap root down into the rapid rooters

Works for me other might have another improved method?
