Learning from others: the reason why I'm on this forum.

Learn from my mistakes: the reason I purchased the moisture meter which uses no electronics.

I don't know anyone who farms and I'm learning this all on my own with tips from some experienced people on this forum. My problem was being too attentive and watering too much.

Thanks for your amazing input

Sometimes mistakes are the best way to learn but often the hardest way lol. You got this!

Also not looking for any smart ass answers like "stick your finger in the soil" or "lift up the bag." I am doing that but I want to get an idea of the weight of the bag when it is time to water it. I've had problems with over watering in the past and this is my first soil grow. The soil at the bottom is still wet/moist and the bags are heavy but the top 2+ inches of soil is dry
So if you have had over watering problems in the past and this is your first soil grow what were you over watering before??

i have the same issue that you the bottom 2 or 3 inches will be wet and the top 7 inches dry but
if your not rich and cant buy the expensive shit these other guys have there all gonna tell u your is trash , even if you weigh your pot and it weighs 4 lbs dry and you weigh wet and it shows 6 lbs there still gonna tell u to water 12 cups of water dont worry tho in a few days they will all have a different opinion on your issue like on my post 1 day it was cal mag the next day overwatered and the next day not watered enough all from the same guys lol
Was I one of them??
Hopefully not! 🤣
There is a small click on here that gives some strange advice! 🤔

I stunted and almost killed one of my 3 plants on this grow and on my last grow I used a soilless mix and still over watered

Wow you must of been watering a shit load!!
If you're deadset on a moisture meter I'd get a blue lab one. Has a pH tester on it too!!
Expensive but very good!

Yeah mate unfortunately that's forums for ya!
I always say before you take advice off anyone on a forum take a look through their grow threads and pics.
If people want to take advice of people who have nothing to show that's up to them but personally I wouldn't.

This is the problem with small plants in big pots of soil! Over water them once and they take weeks to recover!
I did it myself years ago when I started!
I would suggest next run start with 1lt pots then to 4lt then to final pots!
Can you making hotter in there that will help them dry quicker.

no i gave correct amount of water the problem was the soil i used was already moist when i started the pots weighed 7.5 lbs before i planted a seed so it never got fully dry before i watered again. a few weeks after i planted i did weigh some of the left over soil i had in a pot it weighed 4 lbs that how i come to this

Does the soil have coco in it?

If you squeeze the pots sides are they rock solid. Sometimes over watered soil can become very compact which will also slow root growth.
If they are give em a tap and squeeze to open it up and decompact the soil it will help root growth and the soil to dry faster!

Hey budsofgeorgia, why dont you drill some additional holes along the bottom edge of your plastic pots. Will help the soli dry out a bit quicker.
I have switched to these 2.2 gallon pots with a lot of drainage and airflow. It does mean watering everyday in the last 2 or 3 weeks of flowering, but I feel its worth it!

yep ive got one but after using a friends its still in the packet lol the thing doesnt work you can water your plant and stick it in and it still wont say wet.
i havnt stuck my finger in the coco for years xD i just go by weight. a good root system will drink alot. so let it dry out so shes nice and light so the root system grows quicker and during early flowering even late veg, you should be able to pour water with 20% drainage completly soaking the soil/coco and the next day it should be ready for round 2.
