I'm trying my hand at pruning yes I love smoking but I also love gardening.
I was curious about pruning the leaves I did to promote growth was correct??

Why remove those midway fans this early @Cubbies69 ? No permanent damage, but removal with no benefit. You can bend/tuck fans. Prune with a plan. I remove growth that won't be productive before I begin to LST throughout the grow. That is my plan. Good luck.
