I have bags over these two (that are propped up not to crush them), but have noticed some yellowing/browning leaves.
Just keep up the other things I'm doing to save them.

Btw I really appreciate all of your advice. I didn't have a very hopeful outlook about these little guys until now.

Should i cut off dead or dying leaves?
 
If there is still green you can cut off tips were damage is. if the leaf is dead or has some funky coloring on it, go ahead and remove.
Since it is small you don't want to remove much leaves.
