it offical i was tripping. all the bud looks insane. What happend was I cut all the huge kolas down, hung them, and then went back to trim reapered the rest. So i was viewing all the secondary nuggets, and more short term memory forgot about 20 amazing hangers of soild kolas.

I will post some pics of some buds and the new transplants tonight

more, the bud shown was done by the trim reaper, so as you can see it does a great job

yea im gonna hand trim them :-( yea the roots werent mushy fresh outta the water, I drilled bigger holes as well and put some plastic mesh to keep the rocks from falling out

I figure im gonna veg at least a week, im gonna wait until the roots are swimming and the plant is about 3ft. im thinking about not filling the bottom tubs, and only top feed until the roots pop out, once they pop out the bottom add the bottom feed that way the roots chase the water instead of wicking from the 2inches of water in the top bucket

I like it! So top feed till roots hit the water, then hit the pump switch for botom feed and pack away the top feed.

Are you going to do Coco baskets?

The other benefit of just top feeding the first couple weeks is you can use a smaller reservoir, and save a little loot on nutrients. I wonder why dds recommends running the drippers the entire cycle though, any thoughts guys?

ill keep the top feed going, but i think taking out the water in the tubs will get the roots down there much faster, i think once they hit the water that is inside the buckets they chill out for a bit because they have everything they need right there. I might redue the buckets so that the overflow drain is maybe covering 1/4inch of the top buckets. there was a huge amount of roots in the top bucket as well. I might transplant into buckets a week out and top feed them until i transplant to speed up the process. The plant doesnt take off until the roots are swimming. I think i am going to use the coco baskets, they stay much less wet than the rockwool and they air prune really well before you transplant. the rockwool gets a nice layer of dead, brown roots after 4wks of vegging. I actually sliced about 1/2 inch off the bottom of the rockwool before I transplanted so i didnt have any dead root matter to deal with

there is a good deal of roots in the top bucket that could just wick up but i think they will do better getting wet from on high

Please keep us posted on what you do so we can all learn. I would specifically like to see your bucket setup with pics as they are going into their buckets. In my experience roots like coco better than hydroton, so I would really like to see how you set up your buckets. I can provide pics of mine as well but its really just sticking either a 1 inch coco plug or a 1 inch rockwool plug into a 10 inch netpot

Also, have you considered the 10 in 5 gallon bucket netpot lids? Thanks for sharing :)

One thing about adding the top feed 24/7 is the extra flow through the system. And it's suppose to be good for flushing. Besides that, I have no clue lol

Paying close attention to what you guys are doing. I'm going the coco basket route as my clones look so much better that way.

What do you guys think about putting the basket on a layer of hydroton and then burying the baskets with the hydroton? My thoughts are the roots can fully come out of the basket and not get air trimmed at all. This way i'll have roots coming out before I put them in the veg setup.

i have but I didnt like the way the roots could go out the side of the 10in net pots and flow right into the drains. with the buckets the roots and to swim up to find the drain lines. i actually use 3gal buckets which are like a 5gal buckets just shout.

this transplant i just put the buckets in the tubs, then scoop stone in it until they cover the water then add another 1/2inch worth of stones and set the cubes on it. I fill the buckets so that it doesnt cover the cubes

i see what your saying, i think you could just veg in the coco shells, then maybe transplant into your buckets a week before you put them in the tubs, then maybe veg in the tubs for a week and i think by then the roots will be huge

You need to have your crown moist all all times. It keeps the flow going in the plant, you want your plant balanced. If your plant is moist above ground, and below, but drier in the middle(rootball) the flow would not be equal. JK

Dizzle - I'll give the drip another try. I never saw a real difference in my plants with it, but ill give it another go next run.

What do you think about starting clones in a 4 inch coco pot and then place that into your bucket/netpot, and cover with hydroton..?

One other thing about the 10 inch netpots.. If you have your feed and drain on the same side, the current keeps the roots away from the drains. If you look at my root pics, you can see what I mean. The whole rootmass is cockeyed away from the feed line. Dunno if this is how yours work :)

Edit : Now that i think about it, the 5 x 5 monster plant has colonized almost the entire bucket. I think my big drains are holding it together :)

yea my roots coverd the entire bottom of the tub, but what i mean is, my top bucket has a ton of roots in it as well. If they were in the net pots the roots would be able grow right out the sides and into the drains. i like the fact that they have to come out the bottom of the buckets first, which sits about 3inchs below the overflow drain. I didnt have any roots in any of my drains. you use a 5gal bucket cut off so you really have a barrier from the net pots and the drains so i think your all set

im going to use the 8in coco baskets, i plan on vegging mine 5-6wks with the kush. but the roots get really nice in those baskets, maybe a week before i pull my room down i plan on putting the 8in coco baskets in buckets and top feed them to get the roots popping. I dont have Co2 so they need to be at least 36inchs with the kush I think before flip with the roots all up in the tubs ass. the casey is def a special plant in the fact it grows like a beast.
