I am going to stick with outdoor growing for now, but eventually I will do indoor. Just learning at this point. I tend to go all in on things, to the dismay of my wallet. I stumbled across a few seeds last spring and decided to plant them and see what happened. For the first two moths I sort of let Mother Nature do her job. Then about July the plants got big. I replanted and started researching. Next thing you know, I was hooked. There is so much science behind all of this. Its fascinating. Now I just need to figure out what to do with all this weed... Step by step I will get there..
Yeah, don’t get much of a rush out of growing pansies and petunias! Just keep it all in perspective! And above all, have fun!😁

Don't get real deep into the science, it'll distract you from growing. The basics of growing that are still with me today came from "Marijuana Growers Guide", Mel Frank (1974).

Google Mel Frank (all, images, videos) he's well represented on the 'net. Someone who's at the beginning of the weed movement.

Thanks for the advice. I just picked up a copy of the book!

Any tips for how to get started?
There are so many ways to make hash these days. Most of the old 'weed snobs' are now just hash heads, truly is the caviar of the current market. You will see a huge push in modern cultivars for naturally foxtailing flower sites and looser flowers, simply for the surface area improvement. These flowers generally smoke like garbage but they wash great for hash processors.

Mechanical separation is still king. Rosin dudes have really upped their game though. You can get any consistency you find at the dispo at home with rosin (between different temp/time/pressure settings and hot cures). A super fun thing to do is a hot cure on rosin next to a cold cure for the same rosin, you'll get a completely different effect and profile. Good place to start with the hash is a simple mechanical sieve screen, something like 90 micron to 120 micron. Likely don't start with water extractions until you know what you're growing (a lot of L-terps can ruin water extractions by becoming a lowkey solvent and making chlorophyll water soluble). Dry ice extractions are fun but IMO dry ice has been a rough ask to procure ever since it was critical in vaccine rollout/it was at 100% usage across the globe.

Just have fun with it making hash. Here is some low temp rosin that went solid the second it was out of the bag. We've come so far from the days of keef in a cellophane or rosin with a hair straightener on 300C!

That's what seeds are for.

I think it's kind of funny when people say they want to grow the hottest new hype strains, and in the next sentence complain when they're not stable. It's like blaming water for being wet.
if you self it it should be fairly consistent but it will lose a few genes.

Gnick has all kinds of videos on here on making hash. He’s the Jesus of hash, old Chucky is his leading apostle! It’s easy and the results are excellent.
Thanks I will look into it.

I saw a couple videos about making Rosin. I remember in college I bought a chunk of hash at a Dead show. It was great, but I have new been able to find anything like it until recently. I found some "Hash" at a dispensary that looks and smells good, but I have not tried it. I would love to find a method to make old school has, the kind that look a bit like fudge, but a little harder.

MMMm! Black Lebanese Hash - dish plates an inch thick - $400 (50 years ago)
Thats the stuff! I think I got mine in the fall of 1987, freshman year of college. It was in the parking lot market "Shakedown Street" in Worcester Mass. The Dead were there 2 nights I believe. We caught the first night, great show. The hash was fantastic, at least from my memory. Now that could be because at the time there was only 2 types of weed, "Skunk Bud" which was rare and that dreaded Mexican crap filled with sticks and seeds.

We should be able to make it in California, right? How hard could it be?

Sure, you can make it! But it doesn’t have the same raw materials and the same ancient way of making it! So in my opinion, it doesn’t have the same soul!

Forgive me if I have memories from lots of places. I have been in all 50 three times and hundreds of times the majority of states.

Worcester (wooster). Danced with a couple of dolly's from there at the Groggery in Alston (Boston). Landed up in bed tooting coke all night at some unknown person's apt.

I forgot back east, even in the 80s they were selling commercial blocks of Mexican. I rode the Greyhound to hell (Ameripass $65 three months) delivering blocks of weed to the east. Was before the Columbian Era ushered in. 🧔‍♀️
