In my best Mr. Burns voice:Excellent!

can't wait to see the progress,.....im really impressed, so much so that i'm contemplating running one of my 8 site 8gl UC's without a chiller in the same room next to the 10 site 8gl system thats chilled on a 1/4hp chiller,........so far its just a thought {one you put in my head, so to speak} the main reason is i want to use the 8 site for a Royal Kush grow and not share the nutes with the Bruce Banner im running in the 10 site. Having never having grown either in the UC im betting i might need to treat them differently.

Obviously i can't actually run it sans chiller so let me fix that with this,......the plan is to use the chiller to hold a 50 gl Res at 50 or so degrees being chilled directly from the 1/4 hp chiller, then run 2 seperate stainless coils into the Res to chill each of the two UC systems, hopefully, independent of eachother,.........since i too use no AC at all in Flower and run 5k in one room with extremely well ventelated hoods each with its own fresh-cool air intake ~ Hell in the winter i worry i'm running air too freaking cold thru them~ I'm actually looking to step up to a larger chiller and use the Res to also run "IceBox" style cooling radiatiors thru a couple of my 8' inline air movers -even thinking about chilling the air comming off the charcoal air scrubber!

The chilling 2 different systems with SS cool coils is the way to go... i will deffinatly be doing this as well as also using the chiller for cooling the air via a car radiator and large fan blowing through... Im kicking myself in the ass for not putting my cages around my buckets to support the plants... I was thinking i would be alright because they have nice strong branches to support the massive buds, however i wasnt expecting the whole plants to get top heavy and lean and fall over:mad:.. I spent lastnight jimmy riggin the cages around the plants and tying the plants to anything possible (faucet heads, other plants, whatever i could find)... Ive found that some kind of support for the plants is a MUST.. wether its a trellis or cages something needs to keep the plants in place and under the lights..

Yeah broski big buds need support. I start yo yo ing at 4 weeks. If you can put one large eye hook above each plant in the ceiling, you could just attach yo yos to that.

Hey BHughie, I've been looking back at the start of your show and i'm curious what was your layout, as far as the distances from bucket center to the ajacent bucket center, any idea? any suggestions you would make for 8 to 10 buckets under 2K with a 4'x8' trellis at the canopy. i'm pretty much stuck with the 4'x8' footprint as this is the smaller setup in the room,....

my setup is right around 4x8 give or take a few inches... i built this system for 10 buckets however after a few grows i realized the front 2 buckets werent nearly getting enough light so i stopped putting plants in them.. i just measured the centers and they are about 36-38".. If i rebuilt this system i would either use just the 8 buckets with the same centers or 10 buckets with 30-32" centers... One suggestion would be to get the Burpee tomato cages instead of using the trellis... The cages are perfect for the 8gal or 13 gal buckets, they slip right over the tops snuggly and have enough bars to train the plants through the cage... Or if you insist using a trellis do a double trellis to make sure that they will be able to support the large tops that you will have...

Here's a couple pics of a previous grow with the cages you can see they really help keep an even canopy and spread out the plant with minimal training I paid like 100 for 9 of them.. They come in 3 packs for around 35 bucks...

Hmmmm,......Yes i always do a double trellis, and im planning to use tomato cages on the 2K side of the room (8-10 buckets ) and go with the horizontal trellis on the 3K side(12 buckets)
I'm working with a new Royal Kush cut that has always been a a smaller plant in ebb and flo set ups im curious if its shorter stature would allow it to really use the tomato cages to full advantage? what do you think, and why don't you use a trellis?

Mind me asking what kind of # average your getting with those cages,.....looks almost too simple. Also how tall did you let them get inside the cages before you flipped? I understand they are strain specific in their strech specifics, but just wondered what you had done?

its really all strain specific those pics i just posted didnt yield very good, but thats because of strain she is a really crappy yield but one of the most potent smokes ive ever experienced... i average 1.5-1.75#s per 1000w with other strains... However if i had the cages in with this strain im running now i would have no doubt id get +2# per 1000kw... I think youd pry have the same results whether you use a double scrog or cages.. i think its just what you feel more comfortable with... I myself find it much easier to work with the cages i tried the scrog once and found it hard to weave the plants in the middle of the net because it was hard for me to reach

That is exactly why i am willing to give the cages a shot,......i have a really hard time reaching the middle or worse the back of the screened area ~ I'm very curious what technique your using to open them up within the cages, anything you can tell me helps!

Looking so nice and frosty. How long do they have now?

UCMETOO I found with the cages if you put em up soon enough they do everything for ya. No tucking or pulling needed. Just cage and they work the rest out for ya.

Hmmmm,.....gotta give it a shot, perhaps i should just go cages across the board? like i said earlier my only concern is that the Royal Kush im working with has a reputation for staying smallish, while i'm hoping the nature of the UC will over come this trait, i'm concerned it won't be able to fill up th vert space in the cages, what do you think?........Also Amber while i have you i have a question about your use of IBA in your pre veg bubbletable,......what product are you currently using? and at what kind of rates? im guessing your interactions with DS/Q9 might have yielded a little more than just his rooting post ( which does not recomend a specific source of IBA,.......Hence the question!)

BTW i saw a shot of your space you posted reciently, and your grow looked so tight i was really impressed!! Any chance you might redirect me back to a shot of your space with the cages doing their magic?

Well im not too sure what pics you saw but here is a random one with some nice full cages.

As far as the IBA and the bubble tray. Currently I am not using it. I am using only CS veg and CS Roots. The bubble tray I have found is for only and short amount of time. I have gotten tangled by being in there too long. Couple weeks thats it. As for my DS dealings he advised honestly that I go buy the $7 IBA from Home Depot dump that whole thing in there (no it does not dissolve in there just floats around) with some Dyna Bloom (yes bloom not veg) and a sterilizer like CS Roots and thats it. It works perhaps too good.

I think its interesting your trying out the short strain. I was actually thinking that the opposite would be optimal in the system because of the nature of the system to just bush. I was thinking that the longer lengthy sativa would have a lot of potential. I guess I would assume a Sour Diesel or Blue Dream would just be jaw dropping. I guess that I can also see how the system would optimize a shorter strain though. I'm actually pretty interested in knowing how that works out for ya.

Thanks its some Girl Scout from a local dispensary. I stuck the mom outside a week or two ago so I will let you know if its the system that makes em beefy or if its just the strain.(whatever it is).

So how far along are yours in the "spear" pics? I'm curious how the plants are doing being close to the lights? They look great in the pics but I experienced like a bleaching of the tip of some of my biggest buds and im thinking it was because they were too close to a vertical bulb early in my run. I wonder if you have seen anything like that?
