How does one keep a MJ plant going for 20 years? Enlighten my dumbass. :)
I don't want to hijack the thread...so a short answer will do or if it's easier just post a link explaining this.

@Kolah - Keeping a plant healthy fro many years can be difficult to do unless one is pretty stable, and even then the only way I've seen/heard of it being done, to keep it alive and truly thriving for so long is to have everyone in your circle, who is able, keep a mother. Then if infestations happen or someone kicks your door in you know she is in good hands. From there I keep the strongest clone from each round as new mother for the next year . I try not to push a mom for more than a year, and I find, if I maintain the mom well and always care for her roots, flowering after a six month veg gives me my best quality harvests inside. When I have a strain I really love I'll keep two or three mini moms going in cycles to ensure I only take cutting from the healthiest one

hi NT,
something that is very important and will keep moms and dads healthy.
Sunlight it's like a shot of vitamin C for the plant.
Occasionaly you should let her soak up some natural sunlight and she will stay healthy.
just beware of light intensity and dont let any insects get on her,
also be sure to maintain proper photoperiod. (dont forget and leave her outside)
Trimming roots and repotting also is a good way.
Bonsai is the best way to keep a special plant alive for many years and should be studied indepth by anyone who is serious about this.

Thanks NT...so clones (in a sense) keep the Mother plant in existence. After so many clones being taken does quality suffer? I know from animal cloning that the clone takes on the age of the mother ...so a 10 year old Mother sheep that is cloned produces a 10 year old baby ewe. And that ewe will have many of the "old age" traits" (arthritis, lower immune system, etc)

Is it at all possible to have the same (original) Mother survive for 20 years without cloning her? And if so, do you put her through regular veg and flower cycles or limit her flower production.

I guess my concern is whether or not as the Mom ages quality starts to go south...and if so at what point does it happen (of course that will drastically change due to nutrients, genetics and other environmental factors)

and for the record, I am not scoffing at Neville/ Shantis work as I have great respect for what they have done and what they continue to do. I am just a curious cat seeking good info.
