Loving this thread!

Can I chip in?

I'm a long time smoker, but only now started to grow.
Needless to say, when I had to choose seeds to start with, I was overwhelmed by the strains and variety, so instead opted to grow something tried and tested, and chose White Widow.

I remember smoking it about 25 years ago and loved the buzz, a good clear mental feeling followed by a relaxing couch lock. Not much mind-melting-Indica, but balanced with a nice Sativa taste that doesn't creep up much on you.
Not that newer strains don't look tasty and yummy but... why not start with something tried and tested and loved by so many people, including me?

To that end, I've decided to only grow White Widow from now on.

I used soil with this first grow (harvest next Saturday!); next grow I'll use one of those auto-watering pump-tanks with coco coir.
Not sure what I'll use next.

But I'll stick with White Widow, and try different growth methods instead of different strains.
That's how you become a specialist, right? You do it again and again and again changing different variables and checking what works.

Cheers!

That's just people's mental state. I still just want to help out when I smoke no matter the strain. The easiest way to get rid of the anxiety/paranoia of weed is to say, "F-it, I don't care". Hardly anyone wants to take the introspective "long road", to figure out what it is about themselves that makes them feel like that.
weed was so strong back then here in cali it was universal knowledge that you'd have to be a crack head or on meth to finish a blunt. it was impossible, the weed was too strong. we even have a saying that went with weed from coast to coast back then because our weed was so strong, we use to say "i dont want no mo" but imagine big companies who want to flood your rooms while flooding his pocket, is not gonna grow that kind of weed. if a guy gets high all day from 10 dollars worth of weed, nobody is really making money. but lets grow some weak shit where people can smoke 15 7gram backwoods and im suppose to believe your weed is strong? LOL

I like that but how can one win when they do grow "old weed" just to be told it isn't really the real strain? Ex. Acapulco Gold I'm considering running

last season. Acapulco gold from bodhi seeds. This dude searches the real. Love this girl! Acapulco gold is hands down my favorite strain! Has a few phenos . A sweet giggly one. A champagne pepper introspective one, and a dankapulco narcotic one. Every season she has a spot in the greenhouse, sometimes 2! I like to have a bunch!

Niiiice work. They look like lovely monsters no doubt. Definitely running an AG next grow 🙏

Found this thread too late. Just bought 100 Trop cherries. 😉
I found Pure Michigan, GSC, RS11, & Gelato 33 to be underwhelming.
Great thread, can I propose we start a thread about strains that meet all the hype?

Anyone try whiz Khalifa strain? Is it legit?

landrace tends to more stable than hybrids where are you getting your landrace genetics
I am always a sucker for the exotic. Have to force myself to not grow any landraces this year. Too many phenos to believe they hype on many hybrids. One pheno can rock and the other can roll. Very few seeds I have seen from hybrids breed true. Even with landraces, there are dozens of phenos sometimes and with hybrids it can be worse if they aren't stable. Too often a crap shoot

I hate that I can never buy the same strain twice because the new and better sounding strain is always around the corner. I've tried a lot of strains but only once, maybe twice then it's no longer on the menu. Another reason to grow.
decade later and im still growing swazi 😆

Really it is the breeders and companies pushing the hype and a few can really benefit for the hype. It is not really all that different than the crap Chinese purple lights with their fake reviews. I got a strain from 1997 a few weeks ago along with some smoke. Well it is nothing like todays fruity stuff but let me tell you 2 hits of it and I am licking my lips for hours.

Depends where you are talking about. South east Asia...pretty uniform...... Himalayas....all over the place......indica to sativa expression.

I hear ya. Still gotta grab a Trop cherry to try tho. Waiting on @ImpulsiveGrower 🤞This site is my gage so if it’s over $100 I won’t buy it. Yes I know ppl think that’s a lot, I dc. I have bought lots of strains to try tho and most I have not kept, so ur right about hype I guess. Imma try it type of guy tho and once u grow ur own u’ll never go back to a dispo. If I want to try MotorBreath 15 I buy the whole plant 😂

I am cutting down trop cherry this weekend. I am doubtful I will run it again. I have had it for about 16 months and just got around to running it. It is probably not going to get run again because it is not a good producer. The hype on that one is all about the color of the buds I believe. They are a decent shade of red. It produced better than Oreoz's but nothing like some of my top strains. The dish. and breeders have already probably moved on. Jungle Boys ran it, I am curious if they are still selling it.

I’m sure ur right but I thought Trop cook mtn was mediocre until I tasted it. Really intense blood orange fizzy thing going on that I dig.

That is the look of it. So how was the taste?
Well the look is purple buds, the smell is peppery citrus and the taste is fizzy blood orange soda. I like it a lot.
