I just fought gnats in a dirt grow. But from what I understand the same Gnatrol is used in hydro as well. I tried a lot of things that failed. Understanding their life cycle helps in figuring out how to get rid of them. Its the larva you don't see that do all the damage to the roots. The flyers are only around for a few days mating and then laying eggs. I would use yellow sticky traps to catch the fliers. This alone will not cure your problem but gives you a good idea of how badly you are infested. I got mine on eBay cheap, 25 were like $15 and then i cut them in half. Ganatrol (also bought on eBay) should be used directly in your reservoir. You need to remember how it works and give it a chance to work. Gnatrol is nematodes like in Mosquito dunks and other similar stuff. (I tried Mosquito dunks and two weeks later not a single change in gnats) Its a brown powder which is essentially nematodes in a suspended animation waiting for water. Add some of this directly to your res. Give them time to do their work. They bore into the eggs eggs and larva eating them thereby stopping the cycle. Its not an instant cure. You will still have flyers and there will still be some that escape the hungry nematodes at first. But, over time this should do it. I tried Mighty Wash, Aramax, Neem powder, none of it worked. Covering the tops of my pots (dirt grow) with an inch of sand to block of the flyers from being able to lay more eggs and adding Gnatrol heavily to every watering solved my problem. Those little fuckers can ruin your crop, Good luck.
