Thanks buddy! Obviously not meant to be funny but glad you see it as such. Honestly this comes from a conversation with my girl that had I been told 12 years ago where the u.s. would be with mmj and mj I would be in complete disbelief. There is a lot to be happy about out there, lots to be sad about too, guess its just the way you want to look at the cup.

Wow I should never underestimate someone bringing up Israel/Palestine in any political conversation, but I am always surprised. For starters, I support Palestine and the Palestinian people, they deserve their land and their freedom from Israeli/ U.S./ and lets not forget the U.K. oppression. My problem with this paper begins with the structure. I say this because as a T.A. for English lit and having to continually correct papers for my friends/family in college I have many basic grammatical problems that I see in the paper which cause me to lose interest in the topic. When I get over these, I see a really weak argument supported by a few cherry picked facts. I say this only in the way the paper is written and not the overall message that he is trying to convey, which I think is a little too confusing. I understand the frustration in President Obama for not coming to help the Palestinians more, but he needs to bring more facts to the table. On one hand he claims that the U.S. under Obama has come to the help of countries in the Middle East in promotion of democracy, but then attempts to criticize Obama for Bush's take on Hamas, not a fair argument. I can only hope we will see some resolution with Obama and that his take with Israel will be more strong and honestly right. That said, this paper regardless of being written by a "doctor" requires much more investigational analysis and citations for me to take it too seriously. Thats just me though and my opinion is not even worth two cents any more, so take it lightly:)! Good read though, I would love to see a more thorough argument though.

I disagree that Obama is bringing anyone together. He is the most divisive president ever. When he got elected I was really hoping that finally, a (half) black man was president and maybe finally the whole racism thing that people love to bicker about might fade away because of that. Seems like it has only gotten worse. He is in a perfect position to encourage people to forget about race, we're all in this together etc. . . But he loves appointing radicals to the supreme court and getting involved in racial controversy like when trayvon martin got shot Obama said he looked like his son. WTF was that about. Things like that only promote more friction between white and black, I think he dropped the ball on that issue.

Are you a person of color or a minority in this country? I ask this because perspective on racism seems to change drastically in this country depending on race and geographic location. No person, president or otherwise should ever be accused of the racism that has existed in this country since its inception. Honestly, look at the number of open white supremacy groups that popped up immediately after he was elected. That could not ever be the Presidents fault, but seeing a black man at the top of our elected office jarred up some repressed feelings for many in this country. I asked you the first question because I am a minority and grew up in an awful part of the country in regards to racism, experienced shit that I would never like to share openly on a website and was just traveling back through with my wife the other month (she is blond and blue eyed) and she was able to witness first hand some of what I grew up with as we stopped by a local sandwich shop to get a bite to eat and the lady behind the counter refused to take my order.....simply because the color of my skin. If you think a black man can change that type of racism, I am sorry but you are so very wrong on that. Trayvon Martin did look like he could be President Obama's son, and he was rightfully disappointed that the situation of a black teenager getting shot for being black in the wrong neighborhood was still happening in modern day America. Unfortunately, racism will always exist, I even after having experienced racism to the degree I have find myself at times needing to check my unwarranted feelings for others, and that is MY problem not one that the President could really ever help me fix unless of course we were super close friends and he could be with me to remind me of my short-comings.

Respect, sav.

I'm sure that incident SUCKED....but at least the lady had the indecency and audacity to say it to your FACE.

Some tire of the "race card".....I tire of the closet racism that is so very, very prevalent in our society today. It used to be that the ignorant would wear their racism right upfront, exhibiting it through action or speech without fear.

These days, however, there is more of a practice of HIDING the racism....veiling it in any/all thoughts...but still putting it out there fully. You can feel it when some folks speak about our President. Nothing he can do is right. Everything he has done is wrong. Everything that has happened is his fault...and his fault alone. Guess why? Yup. It's that "We don't serve (respect) your kind" attitude again.

but don't mention it as you walk out the door after being refused service..... 'cus racism isn't happening today in America today....know what I mean?

I wish I woulda been behind you in line, bro. Seriously.

I for one, feel Obama's tone towards white men is condescending, its clear the way he ran his 'smear' campaign against Romney, so is he a 'racist'? Obama has flat out failed to LEAD this country. The idiots who say criticising Rice is racism, McCain is a racist, is just another poor attempt at pulling the race card and making the conservatives of this countries all sound RACIST, it's pathetic. I've heard a number of African American conservative's speak out against Obama's admin., maybe they're confused about what race they are...

Thanks so much sky, that means the world to me! Yeah the shit sucked, it really threw my girl through a loop as she has never seen anything like that before. Its funny how some full grown adults can hold so much contempt for people they do not know.

One of my best friends happens to be black, and we were standing in line at Denny's waiting to pay; we were paying on separate tickets and he was in front of me. The cashier tried to shortchange him; I watched the whole thing. I pointed out what I'd seen, and got a dirty look and a comment to mind my own business- at which point I stepped up and said that if she didn't straighten up, I'd report her to both the police and her management team. She gave him the proper change. Both the police and Denny's Corporate got a phone call anyway, and I never saw her there again.

If you see racism, hear it, encounter it, or even benefit from it, you as a citizen have the right- and the responsibility- to stand up for what's right. I'm a tall, blue eyed, good looking white American male- and I don't take racism (or sexism) from anyone, aimed at anyone in my presence.

I agree that there's racism in this country. Although I believe its far less than some people accuse it of being.Theres always gonna be idiots that are prejudice against people because of the color of there skin or their ethnicity. Theres also always going to be murderers, rapists and child molesters as well. Theres nothing we can do about it. What we have to stop doing, is letting it bother us so much. If someone acts racist against you then confront them, just like you would if they were rude, mean or just an asshole. Racism only has power if you let it have a lasting affect on you. I also think some people use racial slurs simply because they are upset and know it will bother that person. We also have to stop pulling the race card every time a white person has an issue with someone that's not. You cant say anything about Obama without being accused of being racist!? Cant we just dislike someone because they have horrible political policies or beliefs? Or because they're an asshole, or condescending? Or dozens of other reasons to dislike someone, without being called a racist? I see FAR MORE racism towards white people than any other ethnicity. Although, that seems to be ok in the eyes of most people. Even considered cool or funny.

No Sanvanalona I am a white person who is just tired of the racism thing, because it is such a fundamental issue that we can't seem to figure out. There is no hope for the future if we can't overcome that issue. I wasn't saying that Obama is a racist - I don't necessarily believe he is not but I wasn't saying it - I just was hopeful that his election would make some people realize that yes, a black person can become president in America which was unthinkable 40 years ago. Maybe that stood for some sort of progress, I was hoping. But it doesn't seem to have done much, maybe because other black people don't see Obama as truly representing them or what I don't know. But come on you really think Trayvon Martin looks like Obama? I don't know about that one. I used to be someone who was prejudiced against some groups of people based on outward appearance but I got over that and now I take people as they come, as individuals. My previous way of thinking wasn't my own it was what rubbed off on me growing up. My conscious choice of how to think is that there are assholes in every culture and race, and there are a lot of good people I like in every culture and race. That's all I'm hoping for in this country realisitically - no more labels. That would be a huge step in the right direction if all the hyphenated-American bullshit went away and we were just Americans working together.

Manic - I agree with your last couple sentences there. At my university about 5 years ago there was something printed in the student newspaper, literally somebody saying it would be great to kill all the white people and that would be a wonderful thing. I wrote to the paper and got printed saying that was just another way of dividing people and wasn't funny, racism is racism etc. . . And ended up getting death threats against me PUBLISHED in the same newspaper. How is that for responsible journalism ?

Libertarian? Conservative - not Bush conservative, not Romney conservative, not Koch conservative, CONSERVATIVE. I believe and vote for the candidate who will best LEAD this country. You sound like another idiot who still thinks Obama can cut the deficit in half, HA. Just cause your white doesn't mean you have common sense. I'll stop before I get labeled a racist.

Reezy knows what's up. That family really likes to charge things to their credit card that we have to pay for. It's either the kids or the wife, always taking jets and a whole cadre of security wherever they want, it never stops.
