"This isn't really a smoke report, more of a 'fuck me, i'm pretty nicely cabbaged' ramble."

That's funny as fuck Fast Forward...lmao!

And so was this:
"Right...that was a ramble...my eyes are dry and blinking uncontrolalbly...i've lost an hour or two somehwere...there's an empty pack of digestives next to me and I still want more... this definitely ain't shite."

You got style man! Thanks for a killer update and yeah, a great smoke report too. Rock on with your bad self! lol

Ok, so having smoked both lowryders now the second one is 1000% better than the first. It's curing better, smelling better, smoking better, better buzz. The second had Ripen and 71 days, the first didn't and had 62ish. It might not have been the Ripen, so am going to try it on one of the violators.

The violators seemed to have stopped putting on bud mass and there are signs of pistil death (yeah baby). It's day 45 for them, so I reckon another couple of weeks.

Some photos of the next wave: Pandora's Box (TGA), Kushberry (DNA), Lemon Skunk (DNA), G13 Haze (Barneys) and three lowryder#2s in the waterfarm.

Am LOVING these new deeper small pots...

Also shots of lowryder#2 buds that I'm smoking - this is everything except the massive cola. 15g for the bits around the side, and around an oz on the cola, but will weigh that in a day or two. It's still a bit damp on the insides, so opened it up a bit.

Nice shots FF! Do you recall how many litres those small, deep pots are?

Mini update:

Took the plants out of the flowering tent - 3 violators and the TW and RP random and put down a 1m square tray. I should have taken photos but there was barely room for me to stand, let alone take photos (would have needed a fisheye or better).

The big problem is that the heads are too close to the bulb and there's nothing I can do about it - tried bending them over more but they'll break. Held my hand there and it's too hot...but it's going to have to do. Cable tied them to the tent frame to try and hold them back but it's a few cm difference and I doubt will do anything.

Otherwise all is good in the garden. The violators pistils on one plant are turning brown, but the others are still white....and this is day 49 of about 65. Worries me a bit...

Will pistils not turn brown if they get too hot or too much light??

Anyhow..that's it for now :)

edit: also repotted the whole prop room into bigger 4l pots

As for item number one, you can place a small fan in there near the tops to blow as much heat as possible AWAY from the plant tops. Doesn't cure the problem, but might help the symptoms.

Number two...some/most strains will do just the opposite IMO. The pistils will ?scorch? if they get too hot next to a light and turn brown. But I've never seen pistils stay white longer because of heat or light.

Looks like your putting in the work to make it all happen FF:yes:clapping

Thanks guys.

PGW - that's really helpful..thanks. I guess they're just going to go longer than the indicated 55-65d because I doubt they're going to finish in time for the flush. I think I might use Ripen on all 3 of them just to get things moving....especially because the next wave of Pandoras, Lemon Sk and Kushberry are growing up fast and I could do with flowering them in the next week or so.

When the lights go on later I'll try to get a fan aimed at the tops too. It's hard in there because there's SO much negative pressure with the fans on that the sides get sucked in and it moves fans (I cut one side of my tent down by 2cm to fit it in, hence the extra slack)

Now thats what I call a grow room ! It doesn't get much better then this.:yes

This is one damn impressive first grow journal you have FastForward. After reading this entire thread I noticed that you mention a re-occuring issue in your grow that just about every other indoor gardner faces which is heigth.

Possible solutions

1) veg time has got to be short. If you are growing from seeds get them in there as soon possible ie, alternating leaf sets for clones it as soon you get roots.

2) topping. I know this sounds weird but if you will top the heads of your girls when they are young, real young, it makes a world of difference.

You obviously have the system dialed in now just tweak your growing style to fit the system you have built.

Good Luck,

jj

Things are lookin mighty fine FF!

Ive definitely got my eye on your grows... Thats a very nice set-up you have, nice and clean, I like it

Keep up the great work man!

Thanks a lot JJ. I've started planning a bit better so I don't over veg stuff, so seeds are going about 4 weeks from birth before going to 12/12. I'm also looking for some stockier, single cola genetics. Everyone else manages to grow nice manageable plants with amazing yields, so that's my aim :)

As for the topping, I'll have a go at it later today. I accidentally topped the TW that's in flower now, when bending over the top. It's grown two new colas - which would be lovely if they weren't bouncing off the reflector!!

As a test I've also got a single Pandora's Box that I put straight to 12/12 from seedling to see how it responds, how much yield, size, space etc. It's in a 1.7l pot so I'm not expecting much.

One question that really bothers me still that I'd really value some advice on:

What's the best process to manage growing from regular seed (i.e. non femmed)? I don't have the luxury of space and time to wait for them to show gender sometimes. My plan with this next set of plants is to repot them all into either 6.5 or 11l pots and treat them all as if them were female....then remove the males as they show. The downside with this is that you end up caring for a number of plants that will be killed - wasteful coco and nutes, as well as space. Is there any better way, apart from the mother and clone route??

Cheers CoS :) All I need to do now I think is change my reflector from that massive parabolic thing to an adjustawing or diamond....anything lower profile so I can squeeze out more headspace and growing room.

Mini update:

I finally realised the solution to my problems: remove the reflector :)

So, now I'm bare bulb - hanging vertically. Have got more room vertically and have tightened the cable ties to pull them away from the bulb.

Violators: day 55 of 12/12 and they still look nowhere near done (of quoted 55-65). They're all being flushed with Ripen and I hope it speeds them up - I need the space. Yields are looking to be shite....one vio is very very poor, the other two have nice colas but have been all fucked up from the height issue. Loads of popcorn bud but I'm guessing if I get 2oz from all 3 I'll be doing well.

TW & RP: rocking along, top of TW burned but otherwise healthy and good (day 40 of 12/12).

All my vegging stuff is looking glorious and very healthy. Got to move them into 12/12 in the next week. I may even kill a violator early to make room...(the shit one with no main cola and covered in trichs).

Need to invest in a new reflector but for the time being I'm going to have to do without.

Some photos just before lights on. These are of the 3 Violators and the TW and the RP.

This is day 1 of no cramping and heat issues from the reflector - but you'll see burnt leaves and tops....

The TW I topped in flower by accident and is doing great - forming two bud stacks. The top of the RP got cooked white :(

No idea how long these Violator bitches are going to take...but they've all got white pistils on them and loads to go. The fat chunky top of one of them doesn't look like it's going to change at all....maybe from heat stress??

Anyhow, my veg room is getting busy....check out the G13 Haze veg photo - looking ready for the flick. The violators need to get a move on and get finished in the next 7-10 days before I run out of veg room...

They're looking phat FF. If they'll only be a few days from the time you planned to chop em anyway, I say go ahead and make room for the others....juss my two cents though.

Yeah, cheers man...I'm gagging to chop them but they've gotta be smokeable - at the moment they all look too under ripe. My vegging stuff is at 24 and 29 days, so am going to try leaving it for another 7 days and see if the Ripen doesn't kick in and speed things up....once the pistils have changed I'll be happier, but they're taking their time.

I really think that the heat damage has stopped the tops of one or two of them from changing pistil colour, so will start to go by lower buds :(

I've learned loads from this first grow...the next grow will be tons better...and shitloads shorter with better genetics :)

We all learn on every grow. If I ever run a full grow and don't learn something, I'll quit!
