I have smelled some really strong and skunky buds over the decades and it is true, there is almost a burnt rubber vibe
I’m starting to get excited! I’m growing Future #1 from Anesia Seeds (the 2 on the right) and at 3+ wks since flip I’m getting a very distinct burnt rubber aroma when they’re handled. Wonder if there’s any skunky goodness in its family tree?

Skunk vomit, rotting carcasses or burnt rubber doesn't really sound like something I would miss. Maybe try but not miss. Give me a sweet skunky OG any day.
Been minimum 20 years since I’ve smelled or smoked that memorable bud it dosent sound like something you’d want but once you smoked some of it… when we used to get it, it was from a buddy’s deadhead dad haven’t smelled or smoked anything even similar since he passed

I hope these turn out good. I have been in that same situation many times and what I found out happens is the plants smell really skunky in veg and even in flower. However once I harvest and dry/cure they have a tendency to loose the skunk vibe then end up just mediocre. It’s not the way I’m curing either cuz I have a legit curing rig and other non-skunk strains come out killer. The skunk hunt has a way of lifting up your hopes and then dashing them at the very end. I’m not trying to be a Debbie downer or a pessimist either this is just something that has happened to me literally dozens of times. I truly hope your plants can make it over the finish line with the skunk smell that would be awesome. Keep us posted 👍

Found the 90s Super Skunk through my friends dispensary on a native reservation. Leaves smell like catpiss/ammonia but the stem rub smells like skunk.

Also scooped up a 40 year old clone only version of "roadkill" skunk. Not much in the smell department yet since she traveled a few states to get here, but as I was cleaning her up, the cut spots smelled like a nasty, deep, nauseating skunk.

Will be running clones from these side by side.

Did that 81 Heirloom ever pan out??? Ive got 2 packs of those, and the 79. And also the Southern Super Skunk, and Fowl Egg. But havent grown them.
I also have an old worked line of 90s, and 2000 era Super Skunk from Lucky 13 Seeds, though, I dont expect it to be Skunk. But is a good line from old days. Its called Y2K Skunk. They also have a work 80s Skunk 1 line, but sold out instantly a while back. It will be a while before its released again.
I was/am highly skeptical of the Skunk Seeds from Sunshine State/Katsu.
Im sure if yours arent smelling of a skunk by now, they aint going to, because the stuff we had, reeked from early on. This was from 79-84, and my buddy lost it to the cops. He got ratted out.

I've heard of a couple good places to start boys....
Sterling Skunk line.... Or Uncle Festers seem to be where the old school breeders are going for this....
✌🏼🧔🏻

Uncle Festers is a bust. Mostly sweet skunks, no rks. Lots of posts on the forums about it. Same goes for Sterling Skunk - no rks.
Thanks for the heads up...!!!! What about Authentic Genetics? Mr Nice? Katsu? Hazeman? CSI ? Is it totally gone? Would I be better off getting a straight landrace to look for this profile? So weird that nobody would keep a skunky pheno out of everyone.... Back in the day I grew regular Hash Plant and that shit you could smell the bag in my pocket anywhere in the house...

No prob! There's been a lot of people claiming the old skunk and selling seeds, but most haven't lived up to the hype.

The latest and closest is the Katsu or Sunshine State Seed Co seeds, but even those are unconfirmed. Sunshine State had the '79 heirloom skunk clone that he gave Katsu. Sunshine State also seems to have some red flags against them on the forums, so it's questionable. A few of us have them going now but only time will tell.

Check out this thread for some great info on the latest skunk progress:

Everybody has been searching for that skunk for like 20 years, so if it's still out there it's hidden well.

I've finished my first seed run of the seeds I got from my uncle that he and my grandfather harvested and froze in '89 and it's time to do a harvest run. There is a fairly simple explanation to how this all came to be and how I've managed to get them revived after so long. I'm running 16 seeds from 16 different plants that I used STS to self pollinate as to try to keep the genetic properties as close to their original respective DNA as possible. So far it's been a 70 percent average on survival of the old beans and I've carefully mechanically removed the shells and have only germinated in sterile agar gel under a flow hood to erradicate any possibility of any bacteria or spores killing them off before the cotyledons are even out. The ones's that haven't made it, after an inspection under the microscope at 300X, seem to have had porousity in the proteins inside the shell just from breaking down, even though they were frozen at sub-zero temps for nearly the entire 30-some years. That could have been that they were not viable seeds before being packed up, or because they got freezer burned due to a leak in the shells that could have been damaged while harvesting the seeds. This first run is the first one of harvested seeds from the original seeds that are going into full flower without being hit with silver thiosulphate solution to force hemaphrodites after sexing them. I should have all females at this point in time as they were self pollinated and no y chromosome should be present. anyhoo. They are still in inert medium to minimize the chances for bacterial or fungal infection as well as the nutrients are dry and mixed into an RO solution with H²O² added as well. I am also using silica in the first runs to help with cellular structure as the plants, back in the day, were pretty lanky things. I will keep on updating as time goes on with this very very long term mad science.
