now you get to trim… (lol, you’ll get it soon, a real chore)

I’ve been trying to cut down my contributions here, I hope I’m not over doing it, but there are two important things to know..

There are two options after chopping. Wet trim, or dry trim.

Wet trim means you remove all fan leaves and most sugar leaves before drying. Advantage, it’s easier to wet trim than to dry trim. It also dries your buds faster which can be good or bad depending on your situation,

Dry trim means you hang them and dry them with all leaves. Advantage? Slower dry time in low RH environments..disadvantage, it’s a lot harder to trim dry leafs.

I do a quick half ass wet trim removing all fan leaves and most sugar leaves and come back to polish up later with a final dry trim…

And now you get to trim, both exciting and a giant pain in the ass chore at the same time! Carpal tunnel syndrome is a thing ! Especially after trimming 60 colas or so?

I like your humble and conservative estimate— I’m betting your way above two ounces after cure and the bud will make you very happy..

Awesome first grow…

Please keep on posting advice, not only helpful for me but also others that read. Really appreciate it. I will probably do something in between since I don't have time to wet trim now. They are currently drying in the tent, in the dark, around 18,5C and 55% humidity. And I am thinking of terplockbags for curing of this period of drying. Any advice on that?

Someone has some

I don't use terplock bags, but know many like them. I use the old Mason Jar and Boveda pack combo. Its hard to beat mason jars, they seal well and its a one time cost..Glass is always better than plastic in this hobby if you ask me..

So, after your buds are dried (the small stems of the buds snap cleanly) its time to put the buds in a jar (or bags)... From this point, you'll be burping the jars daily for a week or two. I put a small hydrometer in the jars watching for the RH to stabilize to 58-62.. NOTE: if the RH gets high at this point, mold is a very real risk. If your buds are too moist in the jar, you can take them out and air them out for a few hours at a time and put them back...

After the buds stabilize in the jars, I add Boveda RH packs to maintain the RH for a good long cure. This helps to ensure that RH doesn't creep to high or two low. Boveda packs are GREAT !

WARNING: NEVER EVER USE BOVEDA TO DRY YOUR BUDS.... They will rob away a lot of goodness. They are only to be used once the buds stabilze in the jar... (Use them to maintain RH, not to dry !) Mistake made by me,. lesson learned !

Boveda Packs are a little over the top and costly, BUT they will reduce/eliminate risk of mold and allow your buds to cure at a perfect RH... I like 58 RH in jars, but many like them at 62, your call ! ( there are many sizes of these, you can use smaller ones for your jars or bags...

water curing is fun too, but I'm getting this impression your busy harvesting and have a lot to do..

In any case, water curing is really easy and a way to sample your buds fast. Take a glass jar with a lid, punch a few holes in the top and stick some buds in. Now add (filtered) water to the top and put the lid on. Change water once a day for a week. (That's why I add holes to the lid, you can drain water and refill easily)...

After a week, hang the buds to dry and your cure is complete. The buds will be ready to smoke in a little over a week ! Water cured buds are very potent and a little smaller than buds dried conventionally. They will be very smooth to smoke as well.. Bag appeal is not as pretty, but as I say, its fun to sample buds early while waiting for a long conventional cure to complete.

in my opinion VPD is the crucial number for drying cannabis properly. It measures how efficiently moisture can leave your buds, balancing humidity and temperature to prevent mold while avoiding over-drying. The ideal VPD for a slow, even dry is between 0.4-0.8 kPa. The 60/60 method came about because it generally gets yuo close to the proper VPD. However, 60°F and 60% RH do not always result in the same VPD because VPD depends on both air temperature and the leaf (or bud) temperature. At 60°F & 60% RH, assuming bud temperature is also 60°F, VPD is around 0.47 kPa. If buds are cooler than the air (even a few degrees, like 55°F), the VPD drops slightly because less moisture is leaving the buds. If airflow or radiant heat warms buds above 60°F, the VPD rises, increasing the drying rate.

In your case At 18.5°C (65.3°F) and 55% RH, assuming the buds are at air temperature, your VPD is approximately 0.96 kPa. This is on the higher end for drying, meaning moisture will leave the buds more quickly . You might consider slightly increasing humidity (closer to 60%) or lowering the temp slightly to slow the dry and preserve terpenes.

I've got an ounce in a terp bag to see if I like them, so no feedback on them yet. I've always done jars and if necessary I'll add the Boveda packs. It's the old faithful tech for a reason 😄

I used one bag with my last grow... imo they are a solution looking for a problem. They dont work that well and they wear out and end up in the trash. Jars never wear out. And you dont have to melt the seal on the jars to get a proper seal.

Congratulations my dude there actually a type of fridge not perticually cold but sucks air out into a filter air bag with shelves.

Can I see a picture

One_Bell how is everything turning out so far? Do u have any pics of the flowers now?

So far pretty disappointing. The two plants have been drying for 13 days now, so I will probably trim (if it is even worth it) tomorrow and will post some pics. Expect some fluffy micro buds that never fatten up lol. I am already preparing for the second round so I am not giving up in this. Currently have a problem with my waterchiller, which is way to loud. Sounds like something is resonating the casing so I am planning on taking it apart after cleaning up the RDWC setup. Not totally sure yet but next round will probably with Lemon Cherry Cookies by fast buds.

Wow, could not resist to take a top off and crush it up. Still a little bit wet after 13 days, but low and behold, besides looking shitty this is BY FAR the most citrus flavour I ever had to pleasure to smoke. I AM TRULY AMAZED, it looks like shite but taste likes citrus candy? Wtf haha, such a smooth smoke, so much flavour. In about 20 minutes I can report how it hits haha

Just released from trimjail and got the final results of this grow, I already snatched up 0,5G + 3,5G, but after trimming both plants I was left with 121g in total.

Followed your advice and went with jars!

Today it is the 26th of March and I just popped three beans for round #2

Mixed some RO water:

The three seeds sowed and in the tray:

No presoaking the seeds, just straight into the moisty soil plugs with some Great White and put the tray on the heatmat. Let's see how fast these sprout! Since I only have place for two I will select the two who display the fastest growth.

During my first grow I sprouted my seedlings in a tray on a heatmap, and moved the, to an aeroponics system (X-stream) for the first two weeks and then transferred to the RDWC.
They got shocked after transplanting so this round I want to sprout them in the trays again, and when I see roots I will transfer to the RDWC in order to grow roots suitable for RDWC instead of aeroponics.
Is there a drip system you can buy for seedlings?

Nice to find this thread Im just starting my rdwc but I did not finish the assemble yet.

I will agree with greenhealth on soil don't smell as bad as dwc plants as my three autos where soil and didn't produce much smell. But the photo that is dwc holly cow it smells. How did ur first grow turn out one_bell? I will be posting on my thread today on my autos

Cool, what kind of system do you have? I can recommend a waterchiller, helped me a lot with keeping the watertemp at 18C.

After making it possible to vent outside, smell has not been issue with this strain. So I can recommend Epsilon if odour is a concern.

The first grow turned out to be a bit dissapointing at first, things went okay untill the last three weeks. Never got to see those buds fatten' up. However, I still got 120g dry of the two ladies so I cant complain. It is a much more tastier and smoother smoke then I get buying on the black market. It does give me a more cleaner high as well. So, I cant really complain haha. I can only imagine how it could have been with fat buds lol. Hopefully this round goes better.

I can only imagine also as my first auto that cropped does the job lol but buds could have def been fatter.

I bought a cheap one vevor rdwc kit 1+4 5 gals Today I finish the assamble of it but not sure how to fill in all the water. I'll post a photo of my system. Any suggestions?

Keep the waterline 1" away from the bottom of the netcup so it leaves some room for roots to dangle in air and breath.
