It could. but I think he just need to water the snot out of it once and see what happens.
Lost of new growers are scared to water.
If there is not enough water to keep it all dilute, all of it turns into concentrate. Tip burn in organic soil is a first clue to water more.

I was looking at the soil in the pictures. The first one seems dry on top but wet underneath, the next couple look way over watered and the deep green drooping leaves give me make me think about less water. Pretty hard to tell without hands on.
