Ph is halved after adding Nutrients.

It’s not time to start adding my nutrients yet but I’ve been practicing creating the solution to assure I can create something viable.

What I’m experiencing is my original tap water ph of 6.4 go down as much as 3.0 pts after adding nutrients. I ran some individual test this morning to get a closer look. The nutrients I have are about 5 years old stored in a basement with pretty consistent temps. Nutrients testing: sensi bloom, B-52, Mother Earth super tea, sensizym, sensi cal/mag ultra.

What are the possible reasons the ph would have such a dramatic drop and how to correct it. I have tried Ph up however the TDS rose to about 3300ppm. Including a pic of this mornings test.

TDS of 3300 ooof! 600-1200 would be better.
If you take your tap water and add nutes to make it 1000ppm total what is the ph? If it's between 5-7 i'd just leave it.

I have since changed my nutes and ph meter(for the third time). I calibrate the Apera 60 to 7/4. Water is now Ph 7.4 and after nutes is anywhere from 5.8 to 6.2 depending on the scheduled ingredients. I don’t think it was a bad experience as a newbie. I’m sure there were things I could have done better. All are now in flower. The fact that they’re still alive is an accomplishment in my mind. Here they are as of today.

The way i found this question is because im having the same issue. My bottles are brand new. It doesn't matter what nutes i add the ph drops a lot just like yours did. I also have a brand new ph,ppm, 4-1 meter that was rated in the top 3 of digital meters. The nutes ive added has been cal mag,big bloom,grow big,tiger bloom(not all at once) just saying what i have used with the drop being that dramatic in all i use. I have well water which the ph. Is in the 8 range and im getting a drop from that to 4.. was checking to see if you found a solution? My plants look good but i know they could be better. I am new to growing but im a fast learner. My first grow was outside last summer when i grew 2 and since then ive harvested 5 or 6 plants indoors. I go all in if im gonna do something i guess.. just trying to figure out the ph thing before i move outside with attempting a 9 foot(or close)durban poison and about 8 others.. ill post some of my previous plants and some i have now.

Did your meter come with 3 calibration buffers at 4, 7, and 10? If so, I suggest that you put your probe in the pH 4 standard to check for linearity in the meter readings. If the result differs by more than 0.2 units, I would do a two point calibration using the pH 4 and 7 buffers.

If the meter is accurate, I would make solutions of each component at its stated dose rate in separate containers and check the pH of each.

How accurate is your pH meter?

^^ Definitely invest in a good Ph meter. Those $10 ones at Ace are useless. You can calibrate using Distilled Water.

My Ph is around 8.5 or so at the tap. After adding AN sensei grow A and B, along with B52 and Calmag, it goes to about 6.2 (give or take).

Keep in mind too that water temperature has a slight effect on ph.

Sometimes I wonder how scientific we need to get. This shit grows by itself in shitty conditions all over the world!

My 2

As a general rule. For every 1 ml ph down, ph will move down a point. For every 4 ml ph up, ph will move up a point. Good formula when adjusting.

Besides ph of your water. Test your soil ph, not the runoff. Mix 1:1 soil to distilled water. Take soil sample from at least 3" down. Mix slurry about 30 seconds, let settle at least 3 hours. Test with meter and adjust. Vivio Sun has a decent ph meter. Easy to calibrate. You can get extra calibration powder online if you run out.

Organically use lime to raise ph and Sulphur to lower.

Also, when you adjust water, shake well and let sit fifteen minutes before measuring.

It's completely different for RO water vs tap. Plus different nutes have their own buffers too. This may work for you and your water source and nutes but it's not a good general rule. I add 2.5 ml to lower my 4 gallon rez 1 point.
