Yes, but watts and amps are not the same value. What do you think is flowing thru your wires that cause your electric meter to spin?? It's not watts my friend. Amerape is the only thing that flows. Every time you double your voltage, your amperage falls in half. That's the reason industry runs on 480v. In fact, many of the larger motors I had to sometimes cut loose or hook back up ran on 4160v. It's all to save electricity. In Europe, everything is wired on 220v 3 phase. If you didn't save on electric, you had something else going on. It's simple.

So even tho a 1k light uses 1kwh per hour at 110 or 220 no matter what. Whether I'm drawing 5 amps or 10. I'm still charged for 1 kwh per hour. How does amperage change that?

Example, my 600W LED using 110v, and putting out 600 watts energy, is drawing 3.2 amps. That same lamp, at 240v, and putting out 600 watts of energy, is now drawing 1.6 amps. At 240 volts, I run both lamps yet only draw 3.2 amps of electricity.

Your just confused. This was the first thing I had to learn during week one of Nuclear Weapons Specialist in 1980 in the AF. I'm going to bed soon, but if you can't figure it out, then I'll use ohms law on here so you can see it. By your logic tho, and think about this, industry and Europe set everything up that way for some secret reason I don't know about Lol lmao. Heck, I'm 60 years old. Been doing this a while feller. Did you rewire those old up a lamps to run properly on 240v?? My power consumption in my grow room is now 1/2 of what it was. These new Leds sense the input voltage.

I'm not confused. How does less amps equal less electric bill? A kwh is a kwh no matter how many amps I draw.

Well, I know that's what I been taught, that it makes everything more efficient. I apologize if I come on too strong about this. It does save money, but it won't cut you bill in half. I will read up about it more tomorrow.

Because running on 220 requires half the current to get the same power. Running large appliances on 110 would call for huge wire.

You still have not answered my question. How does less amperage equal less kwh on my bill?

Your right about wire size. And you may be right about these lights. From what I been reading, it's the higher voltage that makes these high energy using appliances more efficient. It would be best if you knew the most efficient voltage for a given appliance. Then, supply exactly that voltage and constant. I am running 2 variac transformer controller on each of my vortex fans.

So, you got me to digging, and now I'm learning the amperage mainly does as you said, determine wire size. There is an advantage to 3 phase power that Europe and industry enjoys, that we will never have. Our homes and businesses operate on single phase power. Maybe that is where I got it confused with higher voltage and all. We worked about 95% of the time, either on 480v electrical, or 1-5v, 4 to 20 ma instrumentation. Two extremes. My apologies.

Your right about wire size, one of the main reasons for higher voltage. You may be right about these lights, because from what I been reading, higher voltage helps save energy by pushing harder like a sledgehammer to a nail, such as in big motors or appliances requiring a high amount of energy. Not sure if these lights fit in that boat, but your should. I remember a very high amp draw on the 1k HPS I had. I never did wire it up that way. Nut in theory it should make your ballasts run mo

Ok I'm sorry for digging at it too man you just had me feeling like a crazy person because of what I had always been taught lol. My grow teacher told me in week one, "don't fuck with 220 unless you need the amps, cuz it won't save you money & that shit will kill you" lol.

Thanks man. I was feeling bad too LOL. Now, we can get back to admiring each others grows. I'll have to take some pics with my dslr cannon with the Led's off. They are within 10 days of harvest by estimation.

Oh, your right, it kills. It killed a guy I went to school with, he was a operator out there. It's Eastman Chemical Company, you can goggle sometime. He was only about 36 at the time. Can you believe, a huge fan, wired for 480v, had lost it's ground, and he made the circuit by leaning on the fan and building steel. It was bad. I hate to get shocked, all electricians do lol. So, we learn a great respect for it early.

Hahaha yeah me too it's all good man, I'm always down for an educated debate, someone always learns something including me lol. I need a good camera, cell phone just can't quite give these girls justice most times. I just chopped that run in the pics on 4/21. I'll have a thread here soon, I got a few new projects I'm starting. Dango mailman musta got lost today, my Exotic & Ethos package didnt arrive like they said it would :(

Man even 110 scares me lol. Electric jobs in general I treat like a wild animal... poke with a long wooden stick & then run away hands in the air like a little girl & get help lol. People bring me cars to paint because that's my specialty, I hire electricians for big electric jobs over my head cuz that's their specialty :)

Yep. I'd have to bring my car to you for painting. Do body work too? I can work on them mechanically, do my own brakes, small stuff. I worked on cars for 1 year right after service, and before being hired at that plant. You realize, that we have nearly hijacked EatPizza's thread here Lol. My apologies to you also EatPizza.:)

haha. I have a good understanding of electrical systems. I built reactors for the semiconductor industry for a while. I was about to install a couple tandem breakers and install a 220 but my new qb pucks dont pull that many amps :)

I'd like to estimate about 15 ozs.
I'm hoping for a bit more, time will tell. These buds are very dense. The cure will be a bit slow as the humidity is running 69% in the house. Hopefully by the time I harvest it will be a little dryer. I prefer to cure as close to 50% as possible. But yeah, 15-17. One plant is still growing new hairs and swelling, so it will be last.
