Do you mean actual ladybugs? The nice ones? That might be the case but it's the "M" on the heads that truly reveals the invasive Asian beetle......and I think they actually kill the nice ladybugs as competition.
Not sure about an M. 3 dots or less on each side for a total of six on their backs. Yes actual lady bugs...they only have a total of six spots...its fool proof...

So you're talking about how to identify the real, "nice" ones. The "M" thing is how you identify the fake, a-hole ones...... ;)

There are actually many different kinds of ladybugs with a variety of spots and colorings. The nice ones have 6 (or really 7, 1 more bedides the 3 on each side), but it's the invasive Asian lady beetle ones that are the annoying effers.......

It would be nice to have a few of the good ones in our indoor gardens, to eat spider mites, aphids.......the problem is, then you just have fewer of those, they never really eat all of them, so they don't solve the problem.

The M might be true. The number of spot is definitive. The red lady bugs only have 3 spots on each side...they are the good guys...

So take care and happy growing friend
