Plumbers Grow Diary

Definitely costs a small fortune that’s why I’m using amazon lights. Plus you can grow a lot more plants outside on your property it would be a waste not too. Happy wife happy life 😂😂😂 Happy wife? Is that really possible? Young guys hate that once a month...

Happy wife? Is that really possible? Young guys hate that once a month exorcism time then the change comes along and you long for those good 'ol days. And then morons like me marry a redhead. That red hair is a WARNING SIGN! But seriously, while we've had our moments we love each other. Okay, I kinda like her and she can cook, k?

Those swan slippers are adorable.

The older I get the more I enjoy those little ones. I really need grand kids. Feed 'em sugar have some fun then send 'em back to mom and dad! I'll get even with our two boys yet.

Yesterday I put together a bouquet of flowers from our garden.

Velvet Queen sunflowers, oregano purple flowers, oregano white flowers, cilantro white flowers and thyme purple flowers. She seemed pleased.

Sunday's tea

Mycribal compost tea. A 12oz cup full in 3 gal treated tap water. I'm guessing this will be the most important tea I'll ever make. This will become a weekly feed.

Look who's starting to stretch and flower.

For a cannabis plant she's getting old at 4+ months. I wasn't wearing my glasses but I think I see flowers.

Speaking of flowers

Day 60 of flower. 2-3 weeks to go.

It's getting late in the season but I really would like to put this girl in the ground.

She's 4 months old and in a 5 gal pot. Starting to flower again with another month of veg to go. The weekend is here so who knows if I'll have the time as the giant pumpkins and the greenhouse is top priority.

I still have 3 in pots.

A runt, a killer grower which no doubt will be a male and the horse manure plant. Not happy with the manure plant. Medium holds water like crazy. I only water maybe once a week and only the rim of the pot. When I last transplanted it was very wet so I've been careful. Not worth the effort.

Tomorrow is Tale of the Tape and Sunday is a new tea to try. So much fun and so little time. Until then, Happy Growing!

Tale of the Tape 7-6

+1

Root bound, soil pH over 7 and leaves canoeing. This is just another reason I hate growing in pots.

No change

She's been put in the garage every night since Sunday and not brought out until 9am.

No change

61 days in flower. Garage at night too.

+9

This girl is in the ground with healthy soil. She's starting to stretch so a foot plus of growth is expected.

+5.5

Clone in a raised bed.

+4

Potted but growing well.

Joining the party
6"

6.5"

98.5

I knew this sunflower was 8' tall.

Compost Tea feeding. To increase population of the bacteria and fungi I fed the tea 1 Tbl sugar, 1 Tbl oat bran, 3 Loquats cut open and 1 Tbl 0-5-5 fish emulsion. This should produce a balance of bacteria and fungi. Feeding begins tomorrow.

Until next time, Happy Growing

These were grown in my hard clay soil with no protection. Gophers own the front yard so this is going to be a challenge. Maybe in a bale of straw with chicken wire underneath. Still thinking about it. Seeds should pop within a week so I gotta figure it out by the weekend so it's ready.

Compost Tea Test

Ripening. The fungi will take a few more days to populate the culture.

I'm not one to use anything on my plants until testing and I'm going to use this tea full strength. This Garden Leader tomato should work well.

I'll give it a couple of days and watch it close but I can't see this burning plants.

The goldfish got a water change.

They're eating hundreds of mosquito larva and turning their water into a green soup, perfect for plants.

Day 62

Finally seeing amber on the sugar leaves. Couple more weeks, want the couch lock.

Still finding baby grasshoppers.

You can see the damage but their numbers are low due to all the spiders. I felt several webs knocking this one off the plant, not to mention all the lizards eating their share.

Giant pumpkin seedlings

15 of 32, not great but too late to start more. They'll go in the ground tonight, or in boxes or something. Still debating but picking up soil mix in a few hours.

The greenhouse sits

I want to cut about 3' into the ground rise and move it East as I have 3 bathtubs to place on pallets on the West side and I need a walkway to the chicken coop. A lot of work to be done yet but it's getting too hot to use and will be for a few more months so no rush.

Fresh garden salsa.

We make pounds every year but it's always better when it's our homegrown veggies.

I hear my wife banging around in the kitchen and smell something wonderful coming from that way. I feel a food coma in my future. Couple bt's of Black Jack are in order. I love Sunday's.

Update 7-11

Free Slurpee day! Should be a national Holliday.

Day 66

Getting closer to chop.

Took off a lower bud to try

By the time it's ready to taste my girl will be hanging down as well.

For the past week I've had to deal with this crap

3 of 4 of my adults have shown this heat stroke. The girl in flower wasn't affected. The other two, including my girl in the ground are now fine but this one was hit hard. I moved her to the East side of the house so no direct sun after 12 noon. I know she must be root bound and the pH in all pots has risen above 7 but at this point I'll just leave her where she is, use only bottled water and hope for the best.

Grasshoppers are still hatching and getting their fair share of my plants.

Even with the neem spray they seem to enjoy munching on my plants but not effecting growth.

Their numbers are being kept in check but they're still causing some damage.

Not enough to be concerned about. This plant has added over a foot of growth in the past 4 days.

8' tall sunflower

Amazing. I should have grown weed in that box instead of sunflowers, tomatoes and carrots.

We had beef stew for dinner last night and added a few of our own veggies.

My wife made her famous biscuits. Food coma city.

Still haven't got the giant pumpkin seedlings in the ground.

I've got 4 holes dug, 2 lined with chicken wire and need to line and back fill the other 2 and will be using plastic crates as well.

In the mean time we'll be enjoying pumpkin bread soon.

Getting set up for my first coco grow. I've always grown in soil, even back in the dark ages under lights so this will be interesting. Purchased 40 qts of coco, ordered nutes and debating on cleaning pots or ordering cloth pots. I've got a few months before starting so enjoying all the reading on coco grows.

My plan is to start 12-15 seeds in the big greenhouse with supplemental solar LED spot lights to extend the light period, every month starting this Sept. Cull runts/males and veg for 2 months then move 2-4 of the best plants to my small greenhouse to flower. I had never considered growing in the winter even in a greenhouse but the idea of a monthly harvest is too appealing.

Looking forward to measuring all the girls this Sat. Until then, Happy Growing!
