SO i decided to start my new little hobby with auto flowering seeds (OG kush). my big question is really that im not sure how to use my spyder farm base wick system. like do i just leave it on 24/7 or do i fill the base reservoir once every so often... i would like to avoid root rot obviously but man i have been searching for answers everywhere and nothing has been very helpful. Can i put my newts in the main res and have them draw up for the base or do i have to do newts from the top and if thts the case how do i manage that without over watering since its already being watered from the base. And from my understanding i can start using my wick system when the leaves have reached the outside of my pot.

when do i start adding more water?

my seed broke surface on AUG 25th and i have been giving in around 50ml when the top soil goes dry. any answers would be helpful. also i am using SUNSHINE number 4 mix soil and added more perlite to it.

the flag is a funny haha from a friend tht send me 1000 of those lol. but i used to give a rough idea where i planted the seed since i had 2 other seeds tht never broke from their shell

hey brother hopefully someone chimes in who uses this system to help you out,.
i’ll try to find someone,..
hang in there,..

personally i would hand water from the top,.
what size bags are those plants in?
3 gallon bags. I bought the irrigation system though so id like to use it so it wasnt a waste of money 😬. im gonna be stuck watering from the top anyways for awhile until the root system gets down to be able to use a wick base system. I just worry about over watering is all after I thought about it. BUT its from a cannabis company so there has to be a method to the madness right?

no the cannabis industry since decriminalizing has gone downhill fast,. you really don’t need jack shit to grow good weed,,..
i would toss that watering thing away it will only cause you problems

3 gallon bag will take 2500-3000ml of water,.
you don’t pour it in all at once, i would pour a 1000ml at a time with 10-15 mins at least in between each watering until finished

at what point do I start watering like that? I mean im only on day 6 of it popping up from the soil. or do you just mean start watering like that once the leaves have reach the outside of the pot?

It's sort of an OCD thing but if I'm watering with the hose, I'll hit a pot with the water turned to a gentle volume going in that doesn't pool and I count to 15 and then move to the next plant and do the same and then circle back to the first plant for the next 15 second burst. But I'm with you, especially if you've got a peat blend and you've got it placed outside you want to do an initial watering until water comes out the bottom and let it rest for half an hour to allow those dry pockets to wicker in some of the water. Because that initial runoff is false. The pot needs that water but it isn't immediately absorbed in because of hydrophobia. And a half watered pot, that's how salt accumulates. Next time you go in with water it's even harder to break through.

with an auto id be watering the whole medium next time you water,. @Ninjadogma is also correct,..

IMHO, growing autos your 1st time is asking for a hassle.

I get the feeling you think autoflowering and auto watering equals easy.

No offense, but you got sold a load of doo doo.

Autos can be very unforgiving. Hand water, as others have said, for the 1st few weeks. Once the roots start to poke through the pots, it's time to fill your reservoirs.

Avoid any sudden changes in their climate, and SLOWLY ramp your nutes up, as to avoid stress. Otherwise, you're automatically gonna get schwag.

do 2500 ml next watering with the first 2 using 750ml each time than use the 1000ml last,. make sure to wait like 15-20 mins or more inbetween each watering,.

whoops didn’t finish haha
after that watering it’ll be like 6/7/8 days before you’ll need to be watering again, that tine use 3000ml in 750ml intervals 4 times,.
don’t be picking up the bag but when the plant gets bigger and more situated you’ll have to learn by weight by lifting the bag to determine if you need to water or not,. but in the meantime we’ll help you out with determining that,.
so it looks like you got a few members watching your thread so keep us posted before doing anything,.

i got auto flowering because the tent i have rn is only 5ft tall so i didnt figure a full size would be a good idea. i figured they grow faster than normal so it would be a faster process in learning by making mistake vs losing a huge plant and having wasted more time. i did however get another tent for bigger plants but i wanna wait and see how this one goes, i got a 4x4x80. i planned on doing 1/4 of the recommended newts so i dont over do it right off the bat. but i have a hub system that keeps the environment all within 5 degrees and 5% humidity of what its set to.

kinda but no,. it may be drooping looking for a few hours that’s because the watering pushed out the oxygen , but it’ll come back to normal and that might not happen if you don’t water too quickly but makesure to cover all the medium when watering,.
autos are definitely not a starter plant,.

with autos you did the right thing and start it in it’s finishing bag where as photos you use pots to transplant up sizes as the plant grows until you get to the bag as your finishing container,.

what light you got and how far from the top of the plant is it?..

also i see your using a soilless mix,.
what nutrients do you have?
take pics of them,..
