good thread, thought i would put in my experience. im a 100% coco grower. my first coco grow was with a 5050 hydroton mix. I then tried pure coco, and have never looked back. I use botanicar coco brix. I put in 3 gal of 50% strength nutes and double strength cal/mag to moisten the brick. no flush of the coco at all. if you use fabric pots with pure coco you can grow trees in a 1 gal container. seriously except its way top heavy lol. all my huge mothers are in 3 gal smart pots and have 3in wide stalks. with huge roots growing growing up above the "top soil" if you will.
in flower i use 1 gal plastic pots, drip fed, not on a timer just by my eyeball and choosing. which i do want to put them on a 1 minute cycle timer. i only veg for about 1 week. get about 80-100 plants in a 4x8 . drain to waste.
I have wanted to try a grow with a layer of perlite or cocoton at the bottom of the pot for better drainage. ive also heard of someone doing a flood and drain with coco. not sure of the details but am curious.
I think a mix of pure coco and the bigger coco chips would be great. think im gonna try that on a few next round.
