Question about scrog and foliage

I have 4 autos from fast buds to grow. I fucked up the last one and want a rematch. Last year my outdoor grow was all Barney's Farm seed and it did pretty good. For this outdoor season coming up i bought from Herbies seeds. Hopefully these will do well.
Barney's farm is great! Never tried fast buds but never heard anything bad of them and herbies we dont have here so dunno but fingers crossed!
Also I confused some pictures nevermind about what I said before about toping too early. I do leave 6-7 nodes though, always have to remove some branches that dont make it to the net, but thats just me. Some people top early and then tie down the branches to make sure theyre gonna stretch for the light, I dont do that so.. it all depends haha. I think Im more dissapointed at the fact that the one in the right didnt perform as well as the one in the left considering its the same strain but happens. The coverage of the one in the left is great. Also I still think that 2 months of veg is WAY too much for the growth that you got, be it an indica or not. I have planted indica dominants aswell as 90% indicas like fat banana, never had to let them veg for 2 months to cover my tent. That said indicas are not the best for SCROG unless the breeder says so. If its 50-50 or 60-40 indica-sativa it also depends on what the breeder says but most of the times its fine.

Youre right the seeds are not bad I just realized he toped way too early if he wanted to cover more space.
Could you plz help me understand topping to soon plz. I did it at the 5th node if I'm not mistaken. Would love to get this all dialed in.
I need a grow buddy lol.

I just saw the image that other person posted and it was toped when it was very small and doing that if youre not gonna LST is not a good idea, I thought it was your plants thats why I said that sorry, since I see you didnt LST prior to the net, right? Really you wanna top when you have the nodes you want, I aim for 6 nodes or so because I dont tie them down either so I want as many colas as possible because some are not gonna make it to the net. Thats what I found works for me, more nodes is a clusterfuck less nodes sometimes lead me to less production.
EDIT: Also by LST prior to the net I mean tying down the branches.

Let me extend it a bit. For someone who ties down the branches to the pots or bends them with clips, 6 nodes is way too much because they already know all their branches are gonna grow. Tying them down forces them to keep growing trying to reach the light. In my case and your case the branches that we are gonna be able to SCROG (pass horizontally through the net) are probably the 4 upper branches and not much else so we need lower branches to make it to the net in order to cover as much as possible. Years ago I was adviced to leave only 4 nodes, what the person who told me that didnt consider is that I dont tie down branches so it was one of the less productves grows Ive ever had. The pictures he sent me as example were great but nothing to do with my end result. Different approaches different actions.

welcome to the farm brother,

you've definitely come to the right place for some spot on advice; these people here really know their shite. i've read this entire thread and i haven't seen it emphasized enough; just quit worrying so much and have fun with it. you have two beautiful plants there that will fill in nicely and surprise the f%#k out of you. so far you're doing everything just right and as long as you continue to listen to these kind people and do what they say, you're going to end up with terrific harvest of some spectacular medicine.

one more thing i haven't seen mentioned: is that if you break a branch or two, don't fret over it; just use some electrical tape, put a splint on it if necessary, tape it up and go about your business. 9 times outta 10 they'll heal and develop a giant knot there and be stronger than it was originally.💪

just my .02

True, Im just being picky here. Even the small one will cover most of it by the time theyre done with the flowering stretch, the one on the left has a couple of branches that will be hard to control but considering as stated before that theyre not directly under the light should be fine. If any of them get too close to the light they can be tied with cord to the net. Sometimes I do that when they refuse to bend or if a stem growing on the side is gonna be a problem.
Great tip about the broken stems, I was gonna say something yesterday and my pot head completely forgot, crucial information 😍

This one I would tie down with cord like this:
1735321882969

I think the rest will be fine

i've learned a great deal about the particulars of scrogging reading this thread. i'm not a scrogger (yet), i'm still of the old school mindset of: grow'm from the floor to the lights, pack'm with buds as big as your leg and happy is the queen. all this led and tents and vpds and pars and shite is all new to me and i'm having a blast reading and learning and contributing to these threads. i get a kick outta myself a lot when i see these kinda wispy looking plants being lst'd and scrogged and i think "oh, now isn't that cute".... then 8-10 weeks later i'm eating a giant ole plate of crow when it turns into a completely filled space of huge buds... quite amazing i must say.
that's enuff from me, i'm just trying to give the lad some hope of what's in store for him.🤩😎

Nice! Thats a very good quantity. Whats your approach? I just top and lollipop. Mine are usually compact too but then during flower they skyrocket but thats why I have the net for, even out the canopy as they grow. I dont do LST prior to the net because Im a lazy fuck and that reduces my coverage and production but overall Im pretty happy.
Same. Top and lollipop. Sometimes I'll FIM a bunch of sites a week or so before flip. I used to LST individual branches but, like you, I'm too damn lazy plus the net will do all the LSTing I need.

This next run I'm going to try and run individual nets for each plant so that I can move them around.

I came from the old school of cultivation and I agree. Learning all these new techniques has really elevated my grow chops.

I use to do training for mothers so I was fairly clued in on the whole LST thing but ScrOG opened my eyes to what you can do in terms of quantity. I also used to like the big fat colas but after having to toss too many giant colas with bud rot I decided that smaller more managable flowers that dried evenly was a better fit for my goals.

I have had broken branches before and facedthat dilemma. My first grow I got a clone of peanut butter breath from a dispensary. It always looked like it was almost dead so I totally fucked with it. I tied branches down and had fun with it as I figured it was dead anyway. Months later it looked like a fruit tree. It was packed with big gorgeous buds. It was the best smoke I have ever had. One hit and it felt like someone punched you in the forehead. My good friend who grows allot and sells thought it was indoor as it was so dense.

Looks like it's coming along pretty well i think. Have I cleaned up to much of the canopy? I have a few areas where leaves lay on top of each other. Should that be addressed? Should I just leave shit alone already 🙃

I think theyre pretty well defoliated and evened out already 😁 keep passing branches for as long as you can until it stops growing, then the tips wont grow upwards anymore. You could push more and get rid of the shadowed/stacked fan leaves but at this point is stretching it a little bit already and we dont know how this plant will take it, better to play it safe, its naked enough hahaha. Those leaves will also take the damage if they run short on food, so you can use them as a barrier in case something happens unless its something that starts from top to bottom. Also you can always defoliate more later on if you feel like she can take it, give them some rest, in 3 weeks when the stretch is done think about it.

Stretching out pretty well and filled in some. Almost done with week 4.
