Rdwc Bucket Size Question

Many will disagree with me, but I prefer not to have a water temperature over 65F. That is only mid- late flower. Usually it is around 55-60F.
Set up the tent as you would if you have a plants in it, set your timers , close the openings on your totes/ modules, close your tent and let it run for 48 hours with no plants. " dry run" will show you what are conditions going to be once you start flowering. Check your humidity, and air and nute temps after 48 hours and see where you at.

That's what I am doing, dry run. I do have seedlings in a tray with humidity dome though.
I am using COB LEDs from Timber Grow lights.
The water smells bad like water that has been sitting stagnant for a while only not that strong. We'll see what it's like tomorrow. I'll also drop the water temp a few degrees.

Stagnant water has a smell due to a bacteria/micro organism development. Higher temp of the water, presence of light and lack of oxygen will promote development of those bad guys.
Let that compressor run for few hours , then Disconnect the main outlet hose and see if the out coming air is warm???
Your water/nutes should have a "fresh" smell all the way up until the plants start finishing.
Low water temps, lack of light in the modules , and a lots of cool air have kept my systems clean and trouble free for years.
If your seedlings are stretching, drop that light down. LED s don't produce a lots of heat, so you should be able to get it close to the plants.
I start seedlings under the 1000w MH, 3' distance. Once they start stretching , I drop the light 6" every day until they stop with stretch.

What temp do you keep your room at? I was planning to try to keep tent temp at mid 70's and water temp at 68. I'm going to let the water temp go lower now. I thought if water temp was much lower it would slow plant growth.
But maybe warm air in the 69 degree water is causing bacteria to grow and water to smell?

So much for that theory...the air coming out of the pump is cool. We will see if there is still a smell tomorrow after the water temps drop.

My nutes are 55-60F.
I would put the bleach into that stinky water scrub the system and let it run like that for few hours, just to kill everything in there that is causing you trouble. Dump everything out, let it dry , fill it up with fresh water, and do a dry run again. I know it seems like a lot of work, but it's better to deal with it now, then when you have plants in there. Last thing you want is to pick up some disease in the mid flowering.

Thanks. Maybe I'll do that. I have time before I need to put the seedlings in and may even use a seperate "root spa" bucket before I put them into the system. For now I'm going to keep a close eye on it and see what transpires. The smell is not too strong and I'm not sure if it is actually the water or not. All of the buckets, hosing, pumps are new so maybe that is part of it. Going to have my wife use her super sensitive nose to sniff it out. :)

Any light is gonna dry out them rioters quicker so pay attention to that till you decide what your next step is...

I know they stretched a lot when I had the timer messed up. I think they are happy now though. They dont seem to be stretching anymore so I think that is taken care of. I did notice them drying out since I fixed it and added the heater. Gave them a little water today and I am watching them carefully. But yeah they are stretched tall.

My guess is that the smell came about when the chlorine evaporated. Probably a little bacteria growth. I really do not want to dump the water but I will if it gets any stronger or does not dissipate. Seems to be less noticeable now.

Why u against dumping the water? Do u have to go to the store like me and buy 20 gal every time lol

I haven't setup the drain to outside yet or the faucet in the basement either so I would have to run the line to drain it and carry buckets up and down the stairs (for tap water) or do as you and buy 20gals at the store.
I may do the drain line tomorrow though while the weather is nice here and wife is working.

Drain line successfully added and tested. I probably need to add a check valve somewhere but for now it's ok.

Next project, bringing a water line + faucet to the basement. Found a cool Shark Bites Tee that will connect into the water pipe AND directly to 1/2" PVC.

Is the smell powerful? Like an aquarium that isn't well maintained?

Water does have an odor, unless it smells off putting, it could be just fine. Run your finger around the buckets.. any slimy shit?

Run a few teaspoons of bleach through the system if you're worried about it

Thanks. Yeah the water is fine. I think it was just after the chlorine or whatever they treat the tap water here with evaporated and there was a change in smell. If it was anything bad it went away because it is no longer noticeable.

Yes it is a Tee that allows direct connection from copper to pvc. It will make adding a water faucet fairly easy.

I moved the seedlings to the bubble bucket/root spa yesterday. It was a bit premature but the leaves were very light green and the roots looked good so I did it. I also watered them when I moved them which was a huge mistake. I should have waited until they were dry. Now I've got curled up leaves and weakish looking plants. The rapid rooters really soak up the water and retain it like a sponge and that's not helping. I lowered the light slightly and moved the little fan so that they were receiving a little more breeze and also turned up the heat a little to try to get them to dry out a bit. But today they are still pretty wet. They are still growing so I'm just leaving them alone for now. Hopefully they will perk up some in the next couple of days. As luck would have it my PH meter crapped out yesterday too! I went over to the local grow store and bought some PH drops to use. Not as accurate but much easier. I guess I'll have to get a new PH pen one of these days.
