Sounds like my kind of spot haha. Any of yall familiar with the king biscuit festival in helena arkansas, blues not bluegrass.
sam and I go way back to the early Rocky grass days where our group of campers were the kings of the festival.
We set up our camp totally deluxe, full liquor bar, mushrooms, full outdoor kitchen with several bbqs, party 4 straight days and nights...
Folks like Del mc coury and band, Dave Grisman, hot rize boys, Vassar Clements, lots other would stop in and eat and jam all hours of day and night.

One of my favorite bands. The guitar player, Charles Swatelle was amazing. We lost Charles several years back to leukemia.
What a wonderful musician and persom Charles was. Was at rocky grass one year where I befriended a Japanese Banjo player nad introduced him to Charles who took the time to sit and Jam with my new friend who came all the way from Japan to be at the festival..
RIP Charles still love ya man...
this is one of my all time favorite songs....

That's DR Banjo Pete Wernick with the Hotrize boys...

This is a song written by my friend Pete Wernick who survived the plane crash of flight 232. Pete is also called Dr Banjo a well know bluegrass musician.
I was an employee for United aitline at the time and actualy dumped the shitters on that ill fated flight.
A reminder to live each day to the fullest and never forget to say goodbye and tell your loved ones you love them....

A DAY IN 89 (YOU NEVER KNOW), Pete Wernick
There's a movie that I've seen a lot
I've even seen it in my dreams
About a day out of my life
I remember all the scenes
Just a day in 89
My wife and child were at my side
Going east on a vacation
Lining up to take a ride
Two hundred ninety six went through the gate
Leaving earth with few goodbyes
It's such a sunny pretty July day
Up here in the friendly sky
Short subject playing on TV
Lunch was good, the end is nigh
I hope you made the best of your short life
You never know when you could die
There goes the bang, the engine's gone
Captain says we're gonna try
To get her down to ground safe and sound
With no controls he's gonna fly
Me and my family sitting there
I hope it's gonna be all right
My little boy sleeping next to me
I hope it's gonna be all right
I can't believe what's going on
This aint no roller coaster ride
Now we're out here in the tall green corn
You never know when you could die
You've seen the coverage on TV
The crew and captain saved a lot of lives
But when the fire and the smoke had cleared
One hundred twelve good people died
A lot of people ask about that day
Has it changed my life in any way
Well I can tell you but it'd take too long
It wouldn't fit in just a song
The most important thing that I can say
Is when I think of those who died
They never said some things they had to say
They never heard a last goodbye
Even if you didn't almost die
You should feel lucky just to be alive
Tell your dear ones that you love them so
That's the main thing that I know.

My all time favorite Bluegrass band.
Got to hang out with John Duffy the mandolin player, greatest tenor singer and picker IMO, What a card.. hilarious
.both john and the dobro player Mike Alldrege had passed away.
They played every Thur Night in Alexandria Va. at The Birgemere night club for like 20 plus years.. I flew out several times for shows there was employed at United airlines...

Back in the day some folks would heckle bands on stage.
Folks would heckle John during the shows and he always had a hilarious intelligent response.
I once yelled out HEY JOHN!!! TAKE THAT CUCUMBER OUT OF YOUR PANTS!!!!!!!!!!
He paused, looked down at his crotch and said....
I already did.....

What a great post to stumble into! Tim O' Brien and Darrell Scott brought me on stage helped me propose to my fiancé last Valentine's Day in Steamboat springs. My fiancé bumped into Jan, his partner, the other day in town and the next thing I know I have a message from Tim, checking in and saying hello. Nothing like your musical idol dropping a line! Nobody can make me smile like the Hot Rize boys, except maybe those weirdos from Red Knuckes ;).

My friend Hitoshi on the banjo.
Met him 20 years ago at rocky grass festival. he was totally lost, 1st time in states spoke little English We took him under wing and showed him a great time. He won 1st place in the banjo contest that year. got to meet some of his idols.
We lost contact then one day phone rings and its him calling from Kobe Japan.
soon he came for a visit and brought his banjo. I was and still amazed he is as good as any professional player and knows all the songs.
He also is a eye surgeon in Japan, very skilled and precise in both banjo and eye doctor.
He out picked a local band who were very impressed with his knowledge and ability to out pick them.
Bluegrass in Japan is huge....
