Scorpion Juice was ditched by Advanced to create Bud Factor X. They added Harpin protein to act symbiotically with SA and Chitosan. The chemistry behind Harpin protein is solid, and in fact (Eden Bioscience) the company that developed the use of Harpin for the AG industry won a Green Chemistry Award in 2001 for this development.
Unfortunately, with the addition of Harpin and Bud Factor X came a jacked up price tag. I searched for months to find a reasonably priced source for Harpin to make my own Bud Factor X mix. Ultimately running into roadblock after roadblock. Needless to say I have resolved to buying "X" for simplicity sake. Luckily though I get it for a reasonable price and until I can find better price point for making my own I guess I am sort of stuck. :)
EMPLOY® H&T Plant Health Promoter, 2oz. Package
$29.95
Replaces the discontinued Messenger® Plant Health Activator. Makes up to 50 gallons. The original Messenger® product containing the patented Harpin Protein was manufactured by Eden Bioscience. Eden Bioscience was purchased by Plant Health Care, Inc. (PHC). PHC has improved the formulation as Harpin αβ Protein (Harpin alpha beta), also known as Harp-N-Tek. The final product is now called EMPLOY® H&T (Employ® Hort and Turf).
# Reduces transplant shock
# Enhances crop growth, quality and yield
# Increases plant stamina and vigor
# Supresses nematode egg production
# Use indoors, outdoors, in greenhouse, shadehouse, and field production
# Use on vegetables, flowers, turf, trees, landscape plants and more
Application
Mix at the rate of 1/4 teaspoon per gallon. Immerse seedlings for 2 to 5 minutes immediately before transplanting to reduce transplant shock. Apply as a foliar spray every 3 to 4 weeks. Store opened package in a cool, dry, dark place. Use opened package within 3 weeks or seal in an airtight container and store in refrigerator or freezer to keep all season. Use mixed solution the same day.
How It Works
Plant Health Care's Harp-N-Tek Harpin Protein is a naturally occuring protein which fools receptors in plants which are normally used to alert them to the presence of disease. EMPLOY® H&T Harp-N-Tek Harpin Protein contains no pathogens, but the plant "panics" and turns on its self-defense and growth systems. This builds strong plants which can resist a broad array of viral, fungal and bacterial diseases, including some for which no effective treatment is currently available. It also enhances resistance to attacks by insects, decreasing potential for damage. Years of producer experience with Harp-N-Tek products, backed by consistent multi-year replicated and commercial field trials, have shown that Harp-N-Tek results in improved plant vigor, stamina, nutrient uptake, stress tolerance, and reproductive growth, plus reduced nematode pressure. That all adds up to more yield.
Safety
EMPLOY® H&T exhibits a high degree of environmental safety. It is applied at very low rates, has an excellent safety profile, and is rated by the EPA as having the lowest hazard potential. Once the plant's defense activity has been triggered, Harpin Proteins quickly disintegrate in the environment, having never entered the plant and leaving no detectable Harpin Protein residue on harvested plants. Edible crops can be sprayed right up to the day of harvest. The original Messenger product was hailed as a major scientific breakthrough by the USDA and received the EPA's prestigious 2001 Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Award.
EMPLOY is a new tool for use in Integrated Crop Management (ICM). Product efficacy is based on its ability to activate the plant's own internal defense and growth mechanisms. EMPLOY works best when used in conjunction with good crop management practices.
Important: EMPLOY is a natural product, but is not certified USDA Organic and may not be used as part of a USDA Organic agriculture program.
