Silicic Acid

Aptus does seem to be the only company selling this retail in the US. agro-solutions has the same thing as facilitor, execpt it has a little copper and zinc added. They have a California office, but they only deal with commercial ag. Wouldnt even give me a distributors name. lol. Here is a good article about the benefits of silica I found on agro solultions website. This seems to be common knowledge in commercial ag. Anybody else try to find another source?

have seen a few alternatives - all like you said ag products though and you have to buy 2.5 gallon minimum - never went past that

been seeing on IG people talking bout Mills releasing a similar product - some are even saying it is the original fassilitor formula

and seeing people doing testing on a product called osa28 on IG as well

should be some new options for us farmers soon in the silicic acid world

I have noticed that when I grow in soil with a layer of sand on top, the stems are stronger. Had floppy stems with a plant, added Silica Blast next grow and saw improvement, ran out of that and added a 3/4" layer of play sand to keep gnats away and have strong stems. Guessing the silica in the sand is getting into the plant.:D

Currently a few people bringing in a salcylic acid. Aptus fasilitor, Mills Vitalize & a new one called PowerSi which is the original fasilitor acid and some amino acids. Those and the osa28 or whatever are the only ones available to my knowledge in the US outside of the big ag world.

Have a pretty sweet hookup on all of them. PM me for info if anyone needs at a big discount.

Dutch Master gold silica claims 5% monosilicic acid content and is a bit cheaper than the Aptus product. Of course, there is much talk of both companies "doping" these bottles with nasties to boost performance...

Salicylic acid is good stuff. A homie uses aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid) instead of the overpriced hydro store stuff. I think willow is what you're looking for if looking for the organic source.

I use aspirin as well to boost the immune system of my young sprouts.
I use it at a rate of (1) 325mg tablet per gallon of water at week 3 of veg , crushed well. And I've used it in veg when thrips did damage, to help in case of infection at the same rate. I can't say directly that it helps, but research and the fact that I've always had successful harvests is enough proof for me.

Silicic acid is very reactive, so in order to have a bottled product with relatively concentrated silicic acid you have to stabilize it. That is you have to make it less reactive. If I remember correctly Fasillito and Silliforce use PEG formulations to stabilize it and Yara ActiSil uses Choline Chloride to stabilize it.

How do you suppose they derive this silicic acid?

It says on the label "Derived from: potassium silicate, boric acid and sodium molybdate".

So they take potassium silicate, dilute it in water to hydrolyze the silicate into silicic acid, then because silicic acid is not stable in solution they have to stabilize it so their product that is mostly water has a useful shelf life.

Doesn't it make more sense to have a supply of potassium silicate, so that you can make your own dilute silicic acid solution on an 'as needed' basis. Thus circumventing the need for fancy stabilized silicic acid in a bottle products?

nutri-tech has a micronized silica, not sure what that means, maybe its just crushed? Aloe vera is a good source of salicylic acid, I didnt know that.

I use agsil as a foliar and root drench. Are you saying when I add water to it I made monosilicic acid?

Depending on concentration and pH, yes.

Once in aqueous solution,

all soluble silicates are subject to the same molecular speciation resulting in a mixture of monomeric tetrahedral

ions, oligomeric linear or cyclic silicate ions and polysilicate ions. At environmental pH values the soluble

silicates are present as poorly soluble amorphous silica and monomeric silicic acid.

No. Dont know anything about it. Is it water soluble? The agsil product is what I will be using. Need to go read Quantrill's link and see what the ph needs to be.

Fatman recommended a long time ago, it comes as Water Glass in stores but supposedly makes a clean silicic acid. Never tried it.

Ye I payed the postage on the free samples but never got one off this company. Very disappointing.

I started doing this on my current grow as my little seedlings were not quite as resilient as normal. Really liked it, they seemed to pick up very nicely after the first dose so I give them one a week. And one a day for me and my heart health. Also started using GH's Armor SI last grow and like it.
