wow man i can't believe its the weekend already!!! this week just flew by.
I saw hendricks appeal is on wednesday, i hope they get the points penalty taken away, i understand the suspensions and money but the parts passed in inspection, nascar saw them before practice and said they were ok, then after practice they collected all of the louvers. larson and those other drivers never qualified or raced with modified parts so i hope they get their playoff points backs. we'll see.
yeah i have elliot too... gettin the big ol 9 shaft!!!!
just saw the dinger win!!!! weather there looked really nice man, much better than it was here raining all day!!! i hope you guys have a blast, the seats you got sound awesome, can you heckle the spotters from there? it looks kinda close.. but with wind and engines maybe they can't hear.
i can't wait to hear about it man!!! it's pretty awesome when you can just drive home at night and come back the next day without camping or hotels. we get to do that with pocono.
i'm a little jelly of the tailgating you got going on. although i am not jealous of the traffic, lines, and waiting you're gonna have to deal with!!! i'll probably still be sleeping in bed when you're fighting all that BS... yeah i won't get to see a midget shot out of a cannon or anything cool but i'll be hitting my cannon in my PJ's!!!!!!!! hahahahahaha
go#5!!!!
Dude you would so love going to an event with me. When it comes to routes, entry, exit, and parking I'm like a savant and find ways to get in and out in minutes that take others hours to navigate.
And yep COTA is so close to where I live I can be parked in 20 minutes after leaving my house and leaving COTA I can be back home on my couch in about 30 minutes.
I do a lot of prep and map reading before going to things like that and the time I can be in and out always trips people out. One key I always find is the back gate to a place. Everybody likes to go thru a main entrance but if there's a back gate, that's where I go and I'll take backroads and drive thru ghettos to get to it rather than main hiways.
So the trucks and Xfinity double header was really good. We were in the park for most of the truck race but were in our seats to see Busch lose and Zane Smith with a burnout so epic his truck caught fire and was engulfed in flames on Victory Lane!
Xfinity was good and the cup drivers who were in it dominated.
Sunday the crowd was huge! Daniel Suarez was clearly the fan favorite. The line at the Trackhouse Hauler was 4 lines and 50 people deep while all other haulers had little to no wait.
A lot more concessions and food trcuks, bars, and shady hangouts for a great time off track than last year.
Turn 1 is the place to be at COTA. The action there is non stop. Even during the flyover. The fighter jets do a flyby over the main grandstands but also fly over turn1 and being up on that hill we felt the heat coming off those jet engines.
And seeing those cars enter that turn 4 and 5 wide just never gets old.
TV is way different experience as we watched it last night when we got home. That turn1 hill doesn't look nearly as tall and steep on TV as it is in reality. And man on that backstretch straight away those cars are crazy fast like they are up at Texas Motor Speedway.
Yep we were a stones throw away from the spotters. We were walking to turn 3 for a panini sammy down there at a food truck I'd heard about so we walked behind the spotters when they were getting into position. I saw that Mahindra suit on one guy and yelled out "Let's go 14!" Go get that win today!" Dude turned and smiled so he heard me haha!
That place is so huge, like the size of a major airport, so there's lots of spots to step aside from the crowd and light a fatty. We didn't drink at all due to heat and having to walk like 5 miles inside the park. Some people were getting zapped by the heat and too much shitty expensive beer. My flask just stayed in my pack and we opted for drinks later at home rewatching the races.
IDK what's up with Bubba and Larson and what that was all about. Or Hamlin spinning Larson right after thinking he was going after Bubba but he was just trying to get into pit row. Ya know I like Reddick a lot but dang that 23XI group is off. Fucking drama queens man. But I did enjoy seeing Bubba punch his car and storm off all pouty haha. Kezlowski, Logano, and the Dillons finished right where I like to see them finish.
Only thing that woulda been better if Busch's motor woulda blown on him and get a DNF.
Suarez might have to sit a week after his pit road shit.
I was also happy to see the RC ringers were really not all that competitive. Saw #5 school the former F1 champ #91 a few times in those turns. I think that guy was quoted saying something like that one race was like an entire F1 season in one day.
We had such a blast I hope NASCAR comes to COTA every year. I'm pretty sure it's on for '24 but uncertain beyond that. I know RC racing is like the red headed step child to folks who just wanna see the ovals and speedways but I like the change ups and especially COTA.
It also seems like the circuit really likes coming to Austin for our chilled out way of life and great food. Cool to see those teams enjoy it here. And it's funny how its a track getting known for bringing new fans to the sport now. The talking heads were saying if you're on the fence and not sure which race to go to for your first, go to COTA because it will hook you. And it's true! It did my wife and I and every time they interviewed first time race goers every one said they'll be back next year. Even a group from Canada of all places came down and got hooked hahaha!!
The track is demanding but the fast cars and good teams an drivers will prevail. Nobody can sneak their way to victory lane there..It will be earned.
I'd have to say this was my favorite race weekend I've done so far. The All Star race was really fun last year too but COTA had it all this year. Even bonus burnouts!!! For real Man! I heard Reddick did donuts at almost every turn after the race hahaha!!
