Ok guys I wanted to update on some observations. Where I live we have mites bad, perfect weather for the little bastards. The summer is the worst because of the low humidity due to A/C, so right now I'm in the shit. I have learned to keep them at bay, even in the summer, without pesticide. In the past I have tried all of the products on the market (pesticide and organic or kinda organic :p). The only pesticides that works in one shot are not legal in this state. I did try them, and they did work. This was back when I just got raped by the damn things. Since I have managed to control them with environment management, pruning, and oil based spray. A certain amount of mites is considered acceptable, and inevitable. "Acceptable" IMO is when there is minimal visual damage, and no permanent physical damage. Pretty much a couple dots here and there. If I can visibly see 10+ spots on any leaf, the damaged leaves are removed and the entire room gets sprayed. I usually spray each room every two weeks or so and spray only the bottoms of the leaves, soil and stems. I think this is where some people go wrong, you have to hit the stems and soil. (And any trellis or Scrog material). In my experience, proper temperature/humidity and airflow is the key to winning the war.

That being said, both Alien strains are showing "average to good" mite resistance. Actually, I would consider the Tahoe Alien "excellent" and the ARC "average/good". At this point I have seen zero mite damage on the TA, with an exception on the lowest leaves as they become "sink" (nMeeks, you da man). As these lower leaves yellow I remove them anyway. The ARC has shown minor damage on the leaves in the middle of the plant, so I will be watching this strain closely during flower when the plants are focused on resin production and natural defenses are weakened. This is just my room and every plant gets hit so it has nothing to do with Alien genetics.

This all can change during flower, and i'll update mite damage as it occurs.

Peace out yall

And also.....at this point I am convinced that mites come from the soil. Doesn't matter what brand, so I am very careful not to get soil on any of the leaves during transplant.

A tip for the people that are cracking Alien Rock Candy: Transplant them into a large container early, there are definetly some short phenos in that batch. If I did it all over I would transplant straight into 3 gallon from the solo cup.

You finding the same with the TA F2? I'm not seeing it as distinctly, but there is a definitely a shorter and taller. The taller is also super vigorous and incredibly aromatic.

Sos: I think you had the magic touch with those ARC beans you popped. I popped 15, 14 made it. 6 of them are shorties, two in the middle, and 6 large. I havent sexed them yet.

Here is a pic of one shorty and one large:

Pretty much half of them are the size of the one on the right, and half the size on the left. It dosn't matter to me because they still have 3 weeks of veg (6-7 weeks total) but if you are flowering sooner than me, upgrade those pots right out of the gate. I think this strain spends a lot of it's early life developing a solid foundation for it's thick trunk/branches, which are the thickest I've seen since growing White Rhino.

some dense lookin branching on that shorter pheno BD, but at the same time that bigger plant looks to have some nice branching on it as well. Double the height of the short phenos??

Yes! Pretty much 1/2 the size. I think I could have corrected it a bit with an early transplant, but, Its pretty clear that there is a short/fat pheno in there. I wonder which parent was the short fatty boom-ba-latty...

you know, the Boom Boom Chubby Choom Choom. :D ;)

They def have the fat'est stems I have come across in growing far , lights on in ten mins will start day 21 time to remove some leaves today - sink and cover leaves that is. And I was in the middle of moving - which feel thru , so i had nothing ready for flower , so i transed them up to 5 gal quickly like 5 weeks , I usually prefer to veg for at least two months but they had a good stretch in around 14in and about 36' now with 5 large cola's forming and crystalling up everyday.. should update soon. be well BD peace soser

It's SUNDAY! The BirdDog crew is kickin' back with some Platinum OG and a whole fresh batch of medicated fudge brownies! I bet I'll be in bed early tonight .

The Aliens are all big enough to start taking cuttings. I took a round of every plant today and put them into the EZ. As soon as I am sure I have a rooted cutting of each plant I will flower these babies! I love taking first round cuttings from seed, it usually only takes 3-5 days in the EZ before they throw roots. I put up to 4 cuttings in each collar, the key to this is to not have the cuttings touch each other. If they do, you will get slime.

I have fresh bulbs in the floro, and the EZ has been scrubbed down with bleach and refilled with clean water PH'd to 5.6. These little guys/girls are as happy as when they were on the plant. I'll be flipping the switch this week! Stayed tuned!

Have a great weekend everyone,
BD

I forgot to post the pic of the medicated butter I made yesterday. I have been messing around with budder recipes for years because I LOVE edibles. I think they are not very popular because of consistency and quality issues. This batch is made with some cherry sativa, sweet leaf and popcorn buds only. This stuff is night time only when smoked, gives you that happy sleepy comfortable feeling. I hope it comes across the same way in the food because I love a brownie or cookie in the evening right before I turn on the tube and fall asleep in the lazy-boy!

I have budder in the freezer at all times, that's just how I roll. One half puck, or 1/8 cup per batch of anything that uses oil or butter will produce 16 ass kicking servings. Let me know if anyone wants the recipe.....

What up Ken! I load up the collars because I don't know how many cuttings I'm going to take usually. Just playing it safe. In this case each collar had a different plant so I took more from the plants that look better at this point. The shitty looking plants I only take two. No rooting hormone needed with the EZ, just clean/cold water. Once they have rooted you can start feeding them and do a pre-veg in the EZ if you want, hydro style. Comes in handy sometimes. My way with words is stolen haha, from south park in this case.

Take er' easy,
BD
