With whichever method you decide to scrub the exhaust (direct or box), check airflow first and use a large enough filter to avoid back pressure. A typical portable AC is around 700+cfm, looked up the specs for mine in the online manual. Too small of a filter and the AC will run hot then burn out, ask how I know..
