My bad on the tests. They have gone up since I haven't needed one in 12 years.
Its about $295 for the tests. Get an ro filter lol.. prices go up stupidly fast and ridiculously high.

This is what I have, but I have a filtration system prior to this in line. I have my whole house set up with a four stage ro filtration system then this is what I have in my main flower room, the water where I live is top water out of a river, so the pH can be anywhere from 6.1-8.0 any given day. And also the corrosion build up in the hot water heater was the reason for getting the whole house setup on the filtration system. When I didn't have the filters I never felt clean getting out of the shower, never lived anywhere else where the shower made you want to take another shower lol.

If you have 400 for seeds, I'm guessing you afford a $250 ro setup.
Perception can be deceiving. Sometimes you spend money you shouldnt be spending. Im gettting hooked on the new hobby and went a little overboard. Its not like Im out here blowing my rent money but I could be making smarter choices. I just wanted some variety and good genetics.

$230 vs epsom salt is a big difference. Im just trying to recover some loses before spending more. RO is going to happen at some point so thanks for suggesting the system. Gives me a place to start.

I live in kansas city the water is a mix of ground and surface water. My tap stays at a pretty consistent 8 ph. The city puts out a water report every year and the most recent was in may 2025

I need hydro help! Im starting at my water source. The main factor here is my budget. Ive got a pretty good tab going on this new grow. The 5x5 tent kit, $400 in seeds, and the same in the hydro setup. Plus I have a few more things to get. So I can maybe get a budget friendly ro system that I would connect to the washing machine cold water or if possible to save some money use my tap water.

Heres the info Ive got so far. Turn my tap on let it run for 20-30 seconds 203 ppm. Tested with the blue vivosun meter you can get in a bundle. It says calibrated ready to use but I am getting a calibration liquid. My water report depending on the year says 50-70 mg/l calcium and 3-9 mg/l magnesium. The main question here! Can I add 15-20 mg/l magnesium to get the ratio right and then add my nutrients? I understand that RO is normally the better choice for hydro but could I get away with tap for a few grows?
When i had good water i did all my grows with tap water in dwc soo yea if the plants like it allsoo amazon sells ro filters for cheap as 70$

Look closely at the dates of tests on the report. Reports are yearly, not all levels need to be checked yearly so on reports they use the last time the test was required for that specific level. And there are cheaper ro systems like amneziahaze said. Really it's what's in your budget and also your size of grow. Consider flow rates of filters and what fits your needs.

I used to use canna nutrients which was easy to use just more expensive than most other nutrients. I run cyco now for hydro. I still run cannas nutrients for my coco medium plants. I use my hydro plants for mainly making extracts, some if for smoking. I just prefer extracts when I am out working, odor doesn't stick as heavy, and it's quicker for my brake time. I run a mobile mechanic business, so in between calls, I take some good rips lol. What kind of nutes are you starting off with? I think you said, Imma stoner and don't remember.

I went with floranova grow and bloom. I want to keep it simple and get a couple grows under my belt before I deep dive nutes.

You will find what works for you. I have close friends that use different things then me, I try out new things every once and a while, simply because if don't, then how will I ever know if something is better for me? You can try to follow someone else's recipe to a tee. And end up with completely different results, or something close. For me I have found cyco to really make my plants healthy and produce a high yield with great quality and it's easy to flush, and It doesn't clog up anything with time. All the additives can be used as supplements for the most part through out the grow and will help if you have any deficiencies going on with your plants. Their products work really well with all the strains I have had go through that hydro room compared to all the other brands I have used. Idk many people that use cyco other than a couple people in my local area that buy from the same grow equipment supply shop, and they all have had the same reaction to the products and switched to using it. My friend group has all different sizes and purposes of grows. So for the larger ones they prefer using the two part nutes for simplicity and the ones growing premium like to have the ability to dial in different nutes for different strains to achieve the best results for what they are trying to achieve. Floranova is a older but trusted nute. I would say get used to using one type of nutrients before switching. But during the process try to understand the different nutrients and what they do especially the micronutrients and microbiology and see how your plants responds to each thing you feed it.

Yep thats the plan. Baby steps. Starting with old reliable gen hydro so I can get hands on with the process. While Im learning the basics I'll be educating myself on the advanced stuff. I just want to get a plant to harvest before I start wearing a lab coat in the grow room. I'll check into that cyco line.

Okay Okay........need an update photo of the young auto!!! 😉

It's a decent line up. A little bit expensive compared to other nutrients, but I find it worth spending a little extra on nutrients for my girls. If I find something else that will make me want to switch, then it's a possibility. But for now it's what I will be sticking with. And you don't need a lab coat lol. I find keeping a journal for my plants helps dial it in for the next grow. Once harvested I spend a little time to go over my notes of all the feedings and all of the data I take down. I can adjust my next grows feeding amount and schedule. That's about the only lab coat 🥼 that I wear lol just notes.

🤣 DLI is daily light intake. It's how much light your plant gets in a day. Ppfd x lights on = DLI

3800 fc is foot candle. Measurement of light intensity. I convert it to the commonly known ppfd.
That should go on a T-shirt. First on the front. Second on the back. ( and yes, I've had my cookie) LOL

Yes sir! My bad Ive been distracted. Not much going on with her the last couple days. I got the new pin placed this morning. Ive removed 3-4 leaves for light pen and tried to keep her flat and spreadout. She has been stressed pretty heavy so Im doing my best to give her a break.

Edit: also let her dry back real good. normally wouldve watered at lunch but Im going to wait til morning.

Looking good man 👊🏼 Doesn't swem to be flowering quite yet.....bonus! Should get your time to manipulate the way you wanted 🤞🏼

It does look like your doing a good job on the training. Also looks to be pretty healthy. Keep up the good work.
