Agreed, but some are pretty efficient, I'm using a couple in my starter room, on 24/7 no problems...3200K cob...have some flood light types that are pure red for flowering, quite good like 30w, and 100w floods 3200K...had to hard wire them, works good...

Wow that is an impressive amount of applied research!

Hope you post some flowers growing under it.

Reading through this thread I see many setups I respect. I’ve always liked led technology outside of growing. I remember first seeing that tiny flashlight that made me go blind for a few seconds as a kid.
Thing is most of these cool ass setups that work for you guys would never work for me. Main reason being in getting a headache just from looking at this

My current serup 20 or 22(I forget lol)

3500k bridgelux eb2 strips powered by a hlg600 0.7a driver in a 4x4, something like this but foldable would be so convenient to move around it gets bulky in the tent

Much respect but not for me. You guys earn your power savings! Here I just toss a single fixture in a 5x5 and plug in my ballast and I’m looking at 1.5-2 per round. Works for me just sayin, but if I had one of you LED gurus in my neighbourhood Id be game to build something. If I spent any kind of $ on leds I’d want it custom as was mentioned earlier with choices of spectrum and what not. Speaking of.. I’m not convinced the traditional low k for flower is best these days. Id like to veg at 6500k, go through the stretch at 5000k, hit the 2100k for a few weeks, then finish with the 5000/6500k. I try and mess with this now but I’m juggling bulbs.. so as LED lighting further evolves, do count me in.. it’s just also you should open up a shop where you custom make em for me lol

Going to use the 4-450nm to help with the stretch and last week of flower to increase trich production.

How many watts are each strip?

I do like the flexibility of the LED strips, i just wasn't sure how well they performed in real life. I have used burples and COBs and both of those have their advantages and disadvantages. But strips seem like they could be a happy medium.

aren't LED strips kind-of-expensive -- Know KIND LED makes them; they are hundreds of dollars - can get cheap strips on amazon - have you heard of "under Canpoy" lighting - something new - any6 way then say in increases yields by 16%% - I do know that side lighting increases yields by at least 15 -20% ( use led panels 12by12)

Anyone happen to have a link to some reliable places to order either QB or cree diy kits? Helping build out a setup for a buddy and thinking of sticking LEDs in rather than traditional hps...and i dont know a whole lot about leds other than they are finally competitive. Just looking to light up a 4x4 or 5x5 so nothing crazy and trying to keep costs down for him.

It's really not too difficult if I can do it most people honestly can. I have a tiny background in carpentry but that was when I was 14 I'm 29 now. The price isnt too bad but damn the little stuff dings you the first time around. I went overboard and landed around 650$

But I'll always tell people do what works for them over what works for me! I love LEDs but there's too much to learn still for it to be for everyone.

Rapidled is maybe the easiest place I know to order from since they will also help you with questions. I bought all my stuff off of digikey, which is probably a little cheaper but you need to know what you want when you go that way.
Rapidled.com
Digikey.com
I believe arrow.com also but the same applies like at digi key (you'll need to know what you want.)

I've done minimal research in the past 3 months. But PLC (pacificlightconcepts) makes fantastic booster strips but are out of stock alot of the time. They make a cob light that isnt outrageously priced either with good quality LEDs.

Also horticulture lighting group makes semi pre assembled lights that are pretty plug and play.

For a 44" long strip I believe mine were $15 or $20 a piece for 20 strips that if I ran a little harder could cover a 4x8 but I'm using it in a 4x4 with a little over a inch gap between strips.

One thing is dont buy into hype. Kind led, well maybe they've change in 3 months but for years prior were absolute over priced junk. Not all LEDs were created equal :)
