You will need a crimping tool for the lugs, or if not squash really well with plyers. LOOSE WIRES CAUSE FIRES,It looks like you had a loose neutral(blue wire)connection.I'm a sparky and most fires start because of loose connections

Lool cross confusions fun Aint it haha.....Irish has just informed me.in should of used lugs when wiring it up to those shitty screws cuz there's no terminals...so now I'm doubting taking it back lol

Sound mate I've just found an old shade with another IEC plug on it so I've just cut it off and attached the 2 wires I've used insulation tape and there all separated nicely just tried it and its all up and running fine....u think this will be OK like? Cheers by the way its gotta be that blue wire hasn't it my fault for wiring it up like that didn't really know about them lug things

Its live mains man twist n tape wont do the job , you need to solder the cables or use a connecter block n tape that afterwards...

Your meant to twist the two sides togethor then put them both into the same side of the connector , furthest screw crimps the copper and it should be cut so the other screw crimps the inner insulation. .. if ya get me ... want me to ring ya ? Lol

My ways the correct way as the way you have done it if its caught will snag and potentially pull out a core causing a fire .....

You are just joining the cable but rather than tape , first screw crimps the inner insulation and the second crimps the copper core, meaning it cant be snagged loose and is safe ...
