That's a Cicada :) "Cicada nymphs suck sap from the xylem of various species of trees, including oak, cypress, willow, ash, and maple. While it is common folklore that adults do not eat, they actually do drink plant sap utilizing their sucking mouthparts"

xylem, like xlem an floem, one feed up one feeds down, like the celery food color experiment, I always remember phloem go down cause it rwmind me of phlem. An u spit it down ha ha ha

LMAO.. Those things are so loud also. My dog loves torturing them luckily he doesn't eat them and just paws them. All I can hear off in the distance is him torturing some random bugs. LOL Does your dog think he is bad to the bone to any animals outside? Mine can see a dam leaf out of place and he is raising hell. hahaha :)
